The vision on their website at <a href=" removed link ">The Diefenbaker is quite impressive, but clearly based on a template. The phone number is fake from a generic template, the social media links don't work, and the terms and conditions are still in template form.

Has anyone contacted them, or know anything about it? There was a bit of reddit chatter a few months ago about it.

Was at a Food for less and Walmart in a smaller community south of Edmonton. Both well stocked, both very well organised! In fact so well stocked that I found large bags of powdered milk, a product I haven't seen in 4-5 weeks or so. I didn't need some but like a conditioned reflex I found myself buying 3 large bags anyway. Something about scarcity triggers a buying response. The cheap large bags of rice were few in stock but there, the cheaper eggs were not available, and the range of flour on the shelves that you would normally see was less but overall it was a impressive turn around from a week or so. I heard a radio program where they were speaking with managers from some of the chain stores and they were saying even with limiting the amounts a person could buy sales were still up about 50 %.
I haven't been to the big city in weeks but I am hearing from friends that the stores there have inventory again. Costco is apparently limiting the number of people in the store at one time, but they too had full inventory again, from what I have heard for friends.
This is only a little snap shot of Alberta, things may be different where you are.

Edit: Security was present at the stores now. Often just one guy.

I can't help but think of that annoying song from my childhood...found a peanut. You know where someone finds a rotten peanut, but eats it anyways, gets a tummy ache, goes to doctor, dies anyways...c'mon, you know the one!

So, we replaced all the canned food at one of the BOL's this fall. These cans had been there for a full year, maybe some of them for two. They were coming up on their expiry dates and we wanted to rotate them. Not wanting to be wasteful, we went ahead and put all these cans at the front of our home rotation. Every one of these cans had been frozen and thawed at least one winter, some of them two.

Veggies and meat products (tuna, canned ham, etc.) were fine. No difference could be detected in appearance or taste. Condensed soups however were a different story. When the cans were opened, there was a skin that had formed on top. This was simply peeled off and discarded. The texture was really interesting to say the least. Tomato soup was particularly "different". Instead of coming out in a thick goopey sludge as expected, it came out in one gelatenous plop, kind of like canned cranberry sauce. While this made it more difficult to disolve in the water, it did end up looking like tomato soup in the end and although it had a bit of an off taste (nothing that would keep me from eating it) no ill effects were detected.

So, for anyone looking to stock some canned goods in an unheated BOL, I say go for it. There might be some interesting textures in some items, but for the most part, still good. Well, good enough to eat if you're hungry that is....

Specifically homes on municipal services?

In the wake of things like Walkteron, and boil water advisories...having that backup is kind of nice. Don't get me wrong, we have some of the greatest water in the world and its treated well...but mistakes do happen, and during prolonged catastrophes even municipal water can become suspect.

Presently, i have a filter, but mainly for smaller particulate and metals. But I'd like to have a system where it could make water safe if compromised on the Municipalities side. And have it running and in place consistently now. Should I go with a simple carbon and UV light? brands, models? Or does anyone have any different ideas? UV wont do me a heck of a lot of good in a power outage...perhaps there are other better filter systems?
