but I am new(er) and thought ok, well what does JAB have to say....no response came.. I scratch my head and realize something is going on.. now I understand there had been some problems a while back, and some of the selfpromoting wind bags were punted, but I wasnt here then so aside from the two obvious gas passers I dont know who all else was involved...so I am thinking maybe this jab is one? and Che does not know this.. or maybe Che does know this and is talking to himself...but that invites the question why? so many questions...you see I am forever the student, always wondering and trying to understand.

I dont understand it all...its like a soap opera to me....but if there is any advice I can give its dont ever trust any authors, any! self promotion is there game..and certainly none that want you to refer to them by Hemmingways nickname. Thats likely a bad sign right off the bat..

actually I just thought to add this for advice......maybe not just authors, any prancing ponies trying to organize you as it should be clear (especialy in my province) they do so for their benifit not yours....You dont need them...you need to start doing things...and then do more things, and quess what, you will meet others doing things, no leaders and their cabal are needed. Background

One of the 'events' I prepare for is a an EMP/CME like event. I don't think it is likely but I do think it is possible. As such whenever I leave home I carry a 'get home bag'. However, one of the problems is I also travel a lot for work. While residing in the North Bay area I am often in Sault Ste. Marie, Bancroft, Guelph, and as far north as Kapuskasing. It is simply not practical to carry in my gethome bag enough supplies to get me home - if I become stranded that far from home. To better help me I've been contemplating caching basic supplies along my main routes. Each cache would essentially be a 5 gallon bucket with basic survival supplies to replace/supplement my existing supplies. After getting this far in my thought process I had another thought. Given that the chances of an EMP like event are slim -- and given that I myself would be traveling at the same moment such an event took place are even far less probable -- If I am going through the ordeal of establishing caches why not also maximize the benefits to others. What I envisioned is perhaps a community caching system where those who are in a similar situation as me worktogether to establish a network of basic caches along our routes of travel and make available the gps coordinates to others (maybe a spreadsheet). So for example: if someone is travelling to Barrie they could look on the list and see that there are two caches along their route and could make a note of where they are. I had a further thought, that such a network could also be used to build community by treating it similar to a 'geocache' in the sense that once these caches are established and the coorindates publicisized-- as we travel we might like to check in on the available caches ... a ledger could be kept at the top of the cache and you could record your name/date you checked and any additional comments you have/email addy etc? Unlike geocaches nothing would be taken or added -- that would be the responsibility of the person responsible for the cache.

These caches could be quite basic and would maybe cost 20$ at the dollar store.

Content ideas:
-clean 5 gallon bucket with lid
-tarp
-survival blanket
-candles
-matches/lighter
-water purification tablets
-maps of the area (even printed off google maps) and any info relevant to the area
-candy
-packaged food that would be updated as required
-knife?
-basic first aid supplies
-garbage bags
etc etc


I think this could be a fun way to help ourselves, help others and build community... The PPCLI will be celebrating their 100th Anniversary in 2014. To mark this occasion, the Regiment would like the Royal Canadian Mint to produce a commemorative coin. The Navy got one, the CFL got one and so did the NHL.

If you think it would be fair for a Canadian Regiment to be honoured in such a way please sign the petition.

Howdy,

I guess I have been trying to avoid this topic in hopes it would go away. A head in the sand moment, I'm afraid.

This topic is not an easy one, which makes it all the more important to discuss it.

I see no less than 3 situations: 1) Family Members fail to arrive at a pre-arranged RV so the family can bugout together. 2) During the bugout a family members is in a serious medical situation OR 3) Post-event an existing conditions causes health/life issues.

For those who have a military background, the idea of battlefield triage is not new. Save as many as you can, without needless wasting precious, limited medical resources. I expect those who work in the healthcare field, EMS fire department or the police have a similar understanding of triage.

Now the part that gets hard is when it is YOUR loved one whom YOU must triage. YOU decide are they left on the bugout route to passaway from their wounds or do you slow down so they are not left behind?? What if the hellhounds are barking on your heels?? Do you leave the slowest members so the majority can escape?? Not easy is it?? It gets worse. What if your best friend and spouse has an incureable disease?? Once their meds runout, there are no more?? How do you prepare to say goodbye?? Thankfully at my place it is not diabettes?? But maybe the slow crippling death would be worse than the quick one once the meds run out??

On the battlefield with your comrades in arms you expect to be put out of your mercy if the wounds are too horrific. But at home with your family, it is somehow not the same.

So, I challenge each of you to ponder this very subject....How do you plan to triage your family when the time comes?? Do you have a plan for this?? Please share, your ideas may help others struggling with having to write this plan on paper for their family.

I must be way out of touch, I had to learn about the existance of Darknet from a recent Maclean's Magazine article.

Must be one or two on here who are familiar??? No hiding in the corners, I can see you.. ;) Now back to business. With all the bots and snoops watching our site maybe we should explore the Darknet?? Any suggestions?? Any pitfalls to avoid?? Anyone familiar with TOR??

I like the theory of unharassed usage of the internet without being spyed on, tracked or monitored. I am an adult, and prefer to make my own choices - especially without government interference or taxation or rules. I believe in the rule of 3, do no harm to others and if you do it will return 3x as bad to you.

As far as fundraising goes, I can handle the cash, but as this is a small project, I really don't want to open a trust account and deal with lawyers and all that...just gets too expensive, so you will all have to agree to trust me.

I think about $250.00 should cover the pins, taxes and some shipping costs.
I figure that I can pick them up in Montreal and send out a few packages to local group leaders for distribution to members.

I have heard it is possible to setup a radio based intranet. So, computers talk to computers via a radio - ham, cb, frs, gmrs, etc.

How do you set up a radio to connect to the modem of your computer/laptop/netbook???

If this is possible and realistic to setup, I could put my old 386 laptop in a faraday cage with a converted radio and have some form of secure comms after SHTF.

Any tech tips or opinions??
