Putting together a Provincial Meet takes a lot of work but it is not rocket science either. By having as many people as possible involved in the development and planning of the as possible makes the work so much easier and ensures a more successful outcome. We are planning a two day Provincial Meet in Ontario on the July 20th weekend and we have received help and ideas from members of this forum from across Canada. Now we are asking for your help again.

To get some idea of the popularity of the topics we have listing what we have at the movement. There may be later additions and subtractions but we would really appreciate your input on what you see so far. We realize that you will not be able to attend but you can still help by giving your input. Please visit the topic:
http://internationalpreppersnetwork.net/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=3026&p=39709#p39709

From the list choose those topics that you would be interested in if you had the opportunity. The purpose is to judge popularity of topics so far and to fine tune the event. If you think there is something that we have missed please let us know.

Once the final program is complete we will be posting it on the forum along with details of the steps that we took to organize the event. This way there will be at least a rough template to work from for members of other Provinces that they could use as a starting point for their meets. It may also give smaller groups some ideas of topics they might like to explore.

Please take a moment to visit the thread, vote for the topics that interest you and have your say. Reply by using the letter associated with the event. You do not have to rank them.
i.e. I would like the topics A,C,E,F,I, J,K,L,P and T

Not wanting to entirely reinvent the wheel where possible I was wondering if anyone who has had any kind of meet could give us some pointers. We are planning a two day event with workshops, seminars, displays, socials and perhaps a guest speaker. The audience will both those new to prepping and experienced preppers.
Well, as I stated it's going to be a slow start due to time and money constraints but I am making slow progress. Just this past weekend I participated in a log mushroom growing workshop/ experiment that was being put on by Growing Ingenuity Group and supported by the Yukon agriculture branch, Forest Management Branch, and Yukon Research Center's Cold Climate Innovation.

This educational 1-day workshop will serve to set-up an outdoor edible mushroom growing experiment. Using 1 cord of wood (aspen, pine, spruce, salix spp), we will set up outdoor log piles inoculated with 4 different species of fungi spawn to determine the viability of this type of culture in the Whitehorse area, and determine which combinations perform best in our climate. The workshop participants will gain knowledge about the fungi’s life history, local species and will also gain hands-on experience working with fungi spawn to make their own edible mushroom-producing logs at home.

I couldn't have said it better my self so why try :D .

So In short I now have a log hanging in my bathroom that has been inoculated with Shiitake mushrooms that should produce if all goes well in the next couple years.

On another Note, I was discussing with the Directer of GIG what their next project would be and it sounds like they are interested in pursuing aquaponics which is something I have long been interested in and researching. I contacted a friend of mine who ran a government sponsored project on hydroponics to see if he had any insight on Aquapnics. Lucky for me, he had begun researching aquaponics in the hopes of pursuing it, unfortunately he was not able to get the necessary funding. That being said he Had a lot of resources on Aquaponics and lent me a text book on aquaculture to read threw. I believe in the next few months I should be able to start planing and designing a small start up system. I will also be introducing my friend to the director of GIG in the hopes that they can team up and get the funding in order to get a aquaponics research project up and running.

Well, I think that's all I'v got for now, I'm not sure how often I will be updating but when ever I have something worth mentioning I will do my best to remember to post! :)

Anyways, I'v already posted my intro in another part of the forum so I wont be doing it again especially seeing that I'm the only person here at present. You ever have that odd feeling that you are all alone? 8-) . I hope that I will start seeing more people from my neck of the woods on this forum. In the mean time I will be posting whatever I can as my projects start to progress in this part of the forum. That being said I probably wont post anything profound until the end of the summer.

Hope everyone is doing well!
JLM
