Roll'em If You Gott'em

This is all about rolling hay doodles. Its sort of a part two to SHTF Haying http://internationalpreppersnetwork.net/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=4073

Uhmmm.....what did you think I was going to talk about?....Oh, that. Well we could talk about the roll of pot as medicine in a collapse setting or the absolutely horrific and financially wasteful war on citizens...but no one really wants to see pictures of your camo, SHTF, Tacticool Bong.

This is a trick I discovered for rolling up hay when I have no bailer or limited fuel to run the tractor. It works far faster than you would imagine. It only works buy rolling it in one direction. if done right, your cut field should roll up like a bear skin rug and make it easy to handle and get into wind rows to dry. Just a reminder. If you ever want cheese again, after a collapse...you have to REALLY care about hay. It will become a priority summer job that takes a lot of your time. No hay means dead animals by mid winter.

(more to follow)

Part tree of this series will be- Don't Fear The Reaper...on Sything and what I learned at the NS Ross Farm Scything competition. (I still owe farmgal this post and its not forgotten. It just has to wait) I still need one more scythe blade. The scythe from Lee Valley tools is great but its too small for my six, three frame..so it went to MrsC5 and I have to build a more ergonomically correct one to fit me.

We don't have any ruminant animals at this point. Our cutting is a multi year struggle to bring back a fallow field from invasive golden rod and a invasive form of choke cherry. It really needs to be cut twice a year to eventually return it to proper hay. The hay, I am just using as compost and deep mulch on the garden. I am taking the nutrition from the field and concentrating it on the garden. Unfortunately, this is also a breading ground for slugs and flee beetles....but it sure helps the garden from returning to field each year. Think haying buy hand is tough? Just try tilling by hand...when what you grow will determine whether you live or die the next winter.

The rolling is good, we do a one like it, but at the time, I thought I would get fancy, I figured out the average weight required for our daily critter hay feed, and when we got the roll the right weight, I would tie it round, made hauling easier, made storage easier as they could be bundled and lifted up on the old pully system into the loft and made feeding easier, grab and feed per bundle, plus as I was working on figuring out how to haul on the livestock, it was needed that way as well.. now I have a pull sled for the horse, but I expect if I could do so, I would still bundle the rolls, instead of work with a loose stack, but that is just me..

I think I would like to try building one of these next year. I saw them while traveling in Europe so they are still in use. Probably smaller. Turn a May Pole into a hay pole.

C5, I love you, dude. The clown, though...
Especially the eyes...

I also have to admit, for just a second when I saw the top pic under "rolling, rolling" I thought to myself "the man has rolled himself a ghillie ... and stuck a cowboy hat on top."

Mrs C5 gets my love and respect, man. You must be a character and a half to live with.
🙂

Well, now it's official. You can all say, That C5 is a Clown.....
an Evil Clown.....an Evil Ninja Clown!

There is an important survival rule here, though. Evil Clowns win every time. If You see one coming for you, do not try to be a hero. Run away! If you shoot it...do not assume it can actually die. Cut its head off and burn the body....and most important, if you hear creepy music playing and your prepper partner says to you, "Lets split up to explore this abandoned building faster...". Look him straight in the eye and say," F@#k you, Idiot. You are on your own." and jump through the window. :ugeek:

I thought I would tack this on here for Nova Scotia viewers. A demonstration of horse team haying is going on-

"August 16
...ADHS Summertime Equipment Demonstration Day. We will be firing some of the equipment we have on
-
site for haying
with horses with various local teams. Come see the horses make hay including
such activities as mowing, tedding, raking, baling and
bringing in the baled hay. Wagon rides will also be enjoyed by all. Will be cancelled if raining!"

I think I will go to this event. Green cowboy hat and all

I didn't know what to do with this, then remembered this post.
America has a new fear. Weaponized Clowns. The NSA needs funding for a new War On Clown Terror and boots on the ground.
