I'm willing to host an intro day in my Arnprior bee yard in late Sept or early Oct.

IF we get enough interested bodies.

Essentially everyone would have a chance to crack into a hive, learn the anatomy of a hive, see the bees as they're preparing for winter, observe some winterizing prep, learn about yard selection, and quite a bit more.

If this sounds beneficial please post with the 3 top dates you prefer. We'll go with the one date the most ppl can attend.

Don't worry about gear. At that time of year the bees won't bee defensive or aggressive. I have several veils but even mosquito veils will suffice. Light coloured clothing is a must (whites, greys, tans) or at least no solid darks.

honestly for me sept is pretty busy yet, but I will have a bit of wiggle room
Sept 24th or 25th

otherwise I prefer oct myself

8th or 9th
15th or 16th

looking forward to hearing back from others.. thanks again for the offer

Depending on timing an spacing, might even be able to offer a bit of carpooling

How many do you want to come out and can I reach out to interested folks in my homestead and permaculture groups? I will do it privately, not on the groups itself.. but to members that I believe would be interested?

As long as folks can bring a mosquito veil or don't panic when a bee flies near them... there's no real limit. Although I would imagine the landowners wouldn't want more than 20 ppl.

I don't mind if folks here spread the word with other groups. Just as long as everyone is respectful of others & the landowners.

I could only do October 15 or 16th. So if those days are choosen I'll be there. Just so folks know I spent the day with oddmott last year at his hives and I can tell you it's well worth the time to get up close and personal. Oddmott is an excellent teacher and I encourage folks to attend if at all possible.

Oddmott, I have five folks interested, you meet most at the event but they are not on-line, we all like oct 15th or 16th, so including myself, that's seven with adagio for that day? Archer does that weekend work for you as well?

Mid Oct may be too late for this year.

I have no idea if it's accurate, but all the weather talk I hear is for a rough winter that starts early.

If frost, cold winds and or snow hits it is not safe to be in the hives. Has to be steady & calm 10+ degrees to work the bees.

It doesn't have to be a weekend for me. I just assumed it'd work best for most.

Anyone seriously interested in beekeeping should make every effort to attend the Queen Bee Party being hosted this Saturday Aug 20 at the Canadian Agriculture Museum.

There's going to be 50ish vendors so you will see EVERY SINGLE product and byproduct possible from keeping bees. You'll also meet all sorts of beeks who use all sorts of techniques and hives to get an expansive overview of the undertaking.

Seriously... don't miss out.

This is the first year. They hope to make it an annual event, but that depends on public support - bodies through the gates - they get this year.
