Assessing Preparedness

With each passing day, it looks more and more like the COVID-19 virus will be at worst, a minor issue for Canadians. Of course that’s great news, but there are a lot of lessons to be learned from this whole mess. This new virus may well pass us by, but what about the next one? Trust me, there WILL be a next one.

SITUATIONAL AWARENESS plays a major part in being prepared. With todays technology spreading news around the globe at near instant speed, keeping a prepared ear to the ground is important. Sure it can be difficult to determine the real truth these days, but those rumors you see online are often reported in the main stream media a few days later. Why is this important? Being aware of a POSSIBLE situation can give you an edge in being more prepared. A perfect example of this can be seen with the whole shortage of masks affair we have all recently seen. It will be much easier to acquire last minute supplies if you’re one of the first in line.

CONSTANT ASSESSMENT in your preparedness plans and gear keeps you a step ahead of the game. Even when there are no apparent threats, preppers should be checking supplies on a regular basis. Are your supplies adequate? Have they expired or need replacing? Are they outdated in regards to new and improved versions?

As preppers we need to ask ourselves some serious questions whenever we run into these types of “near misses”. Did we get caught with our pants down? Did we see it coming? Are we truly prepared for the next one? The time to ask those questions is now.
