Ready to go.. Join us if you want.. Everyone is welcome.. Sounds like a good excuse to sit and have a milk shake.. 🙂
The parks are busy while schools are out.. A bunch of adults taking up a bunch of tables would look so out of place..
Well, I certainly wouldn't be concerned that we would be taking up a bunch of tables... at the rate we are going, using one table would seem obscenely selfish! As for what it would look like?? Not sure what you mean there. Nobody sent me a private message, either... so that is the Edmonton group in a nutshell! Obviously with people on holidays, and it being such short notice, I absolutely did not expect anything to work out... I just wanted to put it out there... a little social experiment, of sorts.
Anyway, E for Effort, is all I can say.
I hope Tofield works out for you... I work in downtown Edmonton, so won't be going.
Tell 'us' how it went!
"Our main business is not to see what lies dimly at a distance, but to do what lies clearly at hand." . ~Thomas Carlyle, 1795-1881
Wow de l'eau, no need to get up at arms about this. It's not a matter of Edmontonians vs Edmonton Surrounders. It's a matter of practicality at this point. From what I'm reading on this forum, meets are always a bit of a damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-don't. If its too low key, there's a chance people won't come. Too high key and then if turnout is poor, the organizers are frustrated they've put ll that effort in and it's a flop.
Looking at a park meeting downtown does sound like a food idea, but I'm a 5 hour round trip to downtown so I have to keep this into consideration. Maybe this is what other people are thinking too? Tofield happens to be much closer to my place, so heading out that way is less of a time/gas sacrifice and I'm more likely to make it happen. Now, if there were to be a day long convention of sort (in conjunction with preparedness week?), then it might be different. We can see if there is a turnout in Tofield this upcoming week, and then maybe plan something in town towards the end of the summer holiday season?
Cheers!

With you coming from that far i hope others would be willing to show up.
Just so yall know there is (or was not sure if its still there) a gun shop there.. Field and stream.... I might have to head in there for a while 🙂
I would be more then willing to head down town for a big gathering.. Getting the ball rolling is all i'm trying to do for the Edmonton folks. If three, four, five or more show up and things go well then others will be more intrigued to go to the next one. For this wed Would you (who ever shows up) want to check out BOB's or just sit and bs or what is on your mind? I can bring my hunting bag, Its a good piece of kit but it will be empty as what i use for hunting gets cleaned out each fall and all the perishables gets replaced and some items updated. Its a thin pack for hunting...
What is the name / address of the ice cream place?
First kick at the cat, I'm ok for BS talk, discussing gear, suppliers, preps, reasons for prepping, etc. if folks want to do show and tell, I'm all ok with this. As usual, I have some gears in my vehicles, so it's not like I need to pan on bringing stuff. The other vehicle to look for at the venue is a grey Suburban.
Im not sure of the name.. Its on the same road as the IGA. Just East of the IGA (might be a sobyes now) They are both beside the train tracks. I hit up Google map.. It's on Rowan's Route (51Ave). and 48st. Its a tiny building with picnic tables out front.
Anybody else coming?
I have a feeling IF anyone else is coming they are not posting.. Yes this is a preppers forum.. But its not like all of us are hiding from the government. I prep incase the power goes out for a week or two or three.. Do i truly believe that SHTF is going to happen.. possibly but If you think your going to survive on what's in your bug out bag all alone you need to rethink that. Go camping all alone for a week... Just with your BOB.. good luck.. and leave a note where we can find your body as you will go insane with no one to talk to. I'm in hopes of meeting like minded folks incase the big one hits. This way we can at the very least know that others are out there. I'm willing to help anyone if they truly tried to help themselves first.
I hope yall prove me wrong in my thinking.. But it seems it's easier to get a bunch of Harley riders together then folks that want to survive the SHTF situation. We all have to travel for these visits. I'm 45 minutes away from Tofield.. the fella above me is more then that by the sounds of things. A meet down town is 1.5 hours for me and 2.5 hours for the other fella.. We all need to have some give and take.. Come on guys and gals..
just set a meet. see who shows up. could be 2 of you, could be 5, could be 20. Thats how the southern group started from what ive been told!
just a couple at the start for the first meeting. they had such a good time and great discussions together that they had another meetup... a few more people attended that, so they had another meetup. Wouldnt you know it MORE people showed up.
Plant the seeds and let them grow, someone has to. Like the old movie quote goes... "if you build it, they will come"
See you all after.
Yes sir Bug that was my intent with this.. I'm still going to be there tomorrow..
Hi Just Do it
I have to second it, you just never know who will come to the meets, set them up and go, I have had meets where folks have said they are coming and its ended up as small as two folks and I have had meets where only a few are coming and ended up with over twenty..
At some meets only those that give notice come and at other meets, there is always folks that read but don't post that come and introduce themselves, the best thing to do is just plan the meets, talk about them, set the date and just enjoy! good luck and hope it goes well.. even if its just two of you that show, have a good visit!

Okay folks.. Final entry before heading out.. I'm still heading there today.. will be in a blue vest and blue jeans. Travel safe see yall there..
hahaha.. blue vest.. 23 and there i sat in a vest.. smart huh lol.. Well Thanks to the two folks who came out. Was great meeting you.
Wasn't sure if you were of the cold blooded type...
Nice meeting you guys as well. We'll have to try another meeting sometime. Went home with lots to ponder on off-the-grid living and wood heating.
Cheers
It all depends on what your first goal is.. Back up power incase a power failure in your area.. Food back up incase your snowed in and the local store runs out of your fav brand of cookies.. Solar is great in your forever home but I wouldnt spend my money there in something you know you will move out of..
I do hope the next time we get a few more folks.. was a good chat. Samantha was nice to pet also.. 😉
