Hi all... hope to head up to Waiparous valley in my BOV... was originally going to be me and the kidlet but she is out of school and wants to be home with friends. So be it. That leaves me wondering if anyone is interested in meeting me up there? It's not hardcore off roading... I have seen low Honda's driving up that road. Not wise but do-able. Seen camper trailers too. Point is... doesnt matter what you are driving... if you just feel like coming out... meeting others, having a camp out where its free. I will be there. Bringing my rifle so can teach you shooting as well (would be nice to chip in a few $$ to cover ammo if you could?) which is okay to shoot up there. Its a 22lr with 17hmr rounds. Good learning weapon. We can talk shop, discover friends to perhaps trust and rely on one day and just plain and simply enjoy the outdoors. It will most likely be pretty busy up there with trucks and quads and dirt bikes etc but there are remote areas as well. Safety in numbers I figure. I also have a sat phone if there are any emergencies and I'm first aid certified (basic). This is just a camp out like any other but a good time to meet and greet, test gear, etc.

If you figure on coming up a day or two later, let me know... I can put up some markers on the way so you can find us. If there is any interest... I will post a map and such in this thread.

Last week up there:

Pretty effective bov! Too bad you won't be around the following weekend. Looks like you have a lot of experience to share. Have a great weekend!

I might be around the following as well. What is going on then?

Not a ton of experience... enough to get me through but minimal compared to so many of you all.

You won't need any experience to join us, we're all still learning. If you're around on the 5th, drop in and share.

What is happening and where on the 5th? I haven't been out in over a year to a function. Bummer Traveller is doing the travelling thing but alas... we have others who are stepping up in his absence I'm sure. Good group we got down this way in AB.

The event this weekend is described on the Alberta Section under the "Plan C - Summer Meeting". All of the itinerary is listed there.

Basically a BoV show n shine plus a swap and shop for those interested in selling or trading some of their redundant gear.

Man, I used to love my 88 Cherokee! Looked just like that!

Straight 6 and easy to fix! 😉

Died of cancer at an early age due to consuming too much Ontario salt in it's daily diet 😥

Ticker was strong but the body was weak 😳

Loyal and trustworthy to a fault...(for salt)! 🙄

Told her many a time that she should cut back on the salt, but she'd just ignore the signs as I welded on another patch...And then one day I noticed she was sorta limping along funny, so I lifted her up so gently and then I noticed ...her backbone was broke! Such a great machine and yet they had to go and put a unibody underneath! No fixin that! I knew then she was a goner and it was a sad day when I gave her the bush burial....

Ya take yer to a known section of land where many others too have traveled that one way trek just to abandon yer old friend...

- She's left as an offering to the scavengers who might pass by and be in need of a certain part....

- and hope they appreciate how she gave up her life for others.....OR NOT! 🙄

(did I put a tear in yer eye with this one?) 🙄

Well it wasn't easy, but we finally replaced that gal with a new young-un of the Hummer breed called H3.

Straight five and fun to drive!

Yet with power like the six and still easy to fix!

And a real frame...no more unibody. We feed her lost of anti-corrosion stuff to counter it's salt intake in winter. We tell her nice stories of the ol' Cherokee and how they have alot in common....sorta! 😆

THE END

Great Stuff Scotty. There is so much great about actually getting out there.
Perhaps another weekend soon Your Cherokee and mine could trek through the trails. (I still have my 1984 and 2001 models)
Can't make the next big meeting, so hope everyone has fun.

Hmmm, maybe I should rethink the quiet part...

Sounds great quietman. Let me know perhaps when you have time and I will see if it fits with my calendar. Would enjoy it.

I figure on heading up to Waiporous Friday evening. If anyone would like to come out and enjoy the mtns, play with camping gear and just enjoy some company... my 12 yr old daugher will be there as well - let me know. We can work out details on meeting up there.

Come on out. Its beautiful, its not far away and best of all... it's free.

I will be gearing up for spring camping again this year up at Waiparous. You should all consider the location. Its a valley, it goes on for a very long time so good bug out location should you want it. You can fire your guns up there so camping and fire arms practice make for a fun time. You can get to much of it with a basic vehicle. Ideally an off road truck is best of course for the more rugged terrain it offers. You can test your building skills with all the deadfall up there. Study flora. You name it... its great. And its free. That's the best part. lol.

if you wish to join me... let me know. We can make a group thing of it.
