Hey recce43
Welcome where do you live there's always meetings going on somewhere
But the fist thing I would suggest working on is a bug out bag with 72 hours of food water, etc

Howdy Recce43,

Welcome to the Forum. Good to have some more motivated learners on here.

I agree with Duffman. Start small and workup. 72 hours, is as good a place to start as any.

If you have recently exited the CF and still have IMP's, they are a good starting point. You will find most will recommend freeze-dried or dehydrated meals,to save weight if you have to move or pack your food. Water is currently plentiful in this area, so removing the water from the food makes sense, to a point.

Are you planning to stay put (Bug-in) or move to an alternate location (bug-out) in the event of a disaster ro crisis?? You more likely than not have much of the so called bug-out gear, you may not have it organized yet for leaving your home in a hurry. The universal terms used here and other Forums is BOB (bug-out bag), BOL (bug-out location) and BOV (bug-out vehicle). The big difference between a recce patrol and bugging out is the supply chain. In the CF, you had combat support services to get you beans, bullets, band-aids and fuel. In a prepper environment, you are the patrol commander and the supply sgt, transport sgt, and logistic officer. If you want it, you have to have it in advance. To have it where you need it, you need to either cache it or carry it. That is it for now.

Please ask more questions. There are plenty on here who can help.

Cheers,

Mountainman.

Hi Recce,

Welcome, I started with the 72 hours mountain house kit from Costco. They also have Thrive foods kits as well. Might be a place for you to start.

Wholesale sports has a 73 hour kit to but I think it's cheaper to make your own by writing a list of things you need and make the kit more personal

Welcome Recce43, glad to greet new prepper folks. Nice as always to help out those who have time in.
Your timing is excellent because there are well informed members of this forum who meet monthly. They are getting together soon, not to far from where you are.
Many times they bring their BOV's and BOB's with them to show new people like yourself. And those of us with time in here can tell you, a great deal of what people are gathering will make complete sense to you. Not just because of your military experience, but your family experience too.
If you have been to either war zones or aid missions like the ice storms, floods and other domestic events, then you already have half the training you need to be a great prepper. And you will be able to help and teach others as much as they do you.

Hmmm, maybe I should rethink the quiet part...

I started by reading everything I could in the AB forums, picking out topics by topic of interest. Once I depleted those, I discovered all the other threads in the topic categories such as communication or defense and then continued reading. Also use the search tool as it is a lifesaver for specific topics.

Like Quiet said, some of us will be meeting in April though that thread hasn't garnered alot of responses; we get a lot of lurkers at the meetings.

Maybe we'll see you there with more questions!

Recce Leads The Way!!! Welcome to the forum Recce 43, I'm an ex mob as well. Don't know if you've ever seen the show Doomsday Preppers recce, a couple wackjobs, but some good ideas as well. You can watch some of them on youtube, as well as 1channel or fastpass.
