The one topic I don't hear a lot about is sanitation. What do people plan on doing for both human waste (sanitation), and garbage - especially for the bug-in scenario. Wastewater processing plants have generators but those can run out of fuel and those of us who are rural and have septic systems have holding tanks that will fill up.
Any thoughts, suggestions - and please, let's keep the poop discussion as clean as possible.
Since we live in the country our poop-solution is perhaps easier than some. We have the materials to build an outhouse and could have one set up quickly if need be. We also have plans for a homemade composting toliet for indoor use if it happens to be winter.
That being said: Our septic tank hasn't been cleaned out in years. My SIL hasn't EVER cleaned hers out in 25 years. If a septic system is working the way it should it will be self sustaining. If we were in a SHTF situation I would re-route as much water from washing etc so that it would NOT go into the septic system. I already have a grey-water system this on my to-do list - that would just push it forward faster.
In the city you may come up with the best possible solution but your neighbours might not...

Highland,
a little while ago there was a poop discussion though I can not remember what the title was, it was very in depth and covered about 5 pages worth of material and input.
