It's coming... and it's going to hurt!

Just a reminder that the beekeeping workshop is happening tomorrow for anyone here who was registered.
Looks like it SHOULD be wrapped up before the rain really hits a little after noon. But, it could be a soggy morning.

Sorry oddmott, I was booked and I was looking forward to seeing you but I can`t do it, need to stay home and can, got so many things coming ready.. right now, just can`t afford to take a day off, have a blast and report back on it.

Well.... they say you get what you pay for.... and in this case that sentiment is definitely true.
The workshop was a) not well organized b) extremely bare bones and c) rained out before we could crack open the hives.
The workshop presenters were nice, and seemed knowledgeable - definitely enthusiastic. However, they were a couple, and they had a propensity to cut each other off, jump in with comments that took the workshop off-track, or otherwise disrupt and delay the workshop.
I've read several books on beekeeping and unfortunately, didn't learn anything new last weekend. I'm ready to jump into actually keeping bees (i've got the land, the lumber to produce my own supers and many of the tools required for harvesting) and unfortunately this workshop provided no in-depth information.
This "workshop" was more like a high school science fair presentation than a workshop on what's required to actually raise bees and produce honey.
I'd give the hosts a little more time to refine their workshop and their presentation skills before i'd suggest anyone attend.
It's coming... and it's going to hurt!
Thanks for the feedback, and overview, good to know..
If you find one local that looks like its more indepth, keep us posted, I would be very interested in more info on plans an costs if you get to the point of making the hives..

I know of quite a few Farmgal.
Jim Anderson of Tanglewood Honey is one of the best in the world and he does spring and fall workshops. Unfortunately his fill up almost instantly. Most reputable beekeepers charge a very pretty penny for their workshops and don't accept cancellations. You're in or you're out your entire fee.
I figured last weekends was a no-lose proposition for the fee... but considering the rain-out, I'm definitely a little underwhelmed.
It's coming... and it's going to hurt!
That is too bad...I am going to the foraging one..hopefully it is better.

I went to the Wild Edibles and Medicinal Plants walk/workshop yesterday. It was a gorgeous day and I actually learned a lot. We looked at stinging nettle, plantain, wild grapes, crampbark, New England Asters, various berries & fruit-producing bushes and their toxic look-a-likes. I think I may check the library for some of the plant identification & preparation books.
