Wow just read the lasted update. 2 highways now closed
I hope everyone is ok
Has anyone heard if everyone got out of those area's? Bushfire's scare the sh*t out of me - unpredictable, uncontrollable and so deadly. Got my fingers crossed for everyone near that area.

Thanks for the concern sussannah775. The forest fires near Timmins Ontario, population 43,000 and Kirkland Lake Ontario, population 8,000 have led to some evacuations under 1,000 in total from some of the outlying areas. The City of Timmins covers a huge area of 2,962 KM2. Most of the people live in the city area not the outskirts. Although both Timmins and Kirkland lake have declared a state of emergency it is very unlikely that Timmins would be evacuated. Kirkland lake however is another story. Residents there remain on a three hour evacuation notice and schools have been closed for a couple of days.
Declaring a state of emergency in Ontario has a lot to do with how we deal with possible emergencies and does not mean that there is an imminent threat. Part of the reason is precautionary and part is financial, making Provincial funds available to municipalities.
Right now we are in the hands of mother nature. If we get less wind or heavy prolong rainfall that would be great. If the wind suddenly changes direction not so great. You can see the current forest fire situation on the map at the Ministry of Natural Resources website: http://forest.lrc.gov.on.ca/AFFM/fire/interactivemap/firemap_English.htm . It shows the location of current fires and new fires as well as information on each one.
Once again thanks for everyone's concern..... and yes I do live in the area and am close enough to smell the smoke!
Thanks for the update ICRCC - let's hope they can get control real quick!

I am praying for rain for them tomorrow! the weather report is saying heavy downpours for the north and they really need it!
Ontario needs about a week of steady, spring like rain. We haven't had that in so long. Such a dry spring this year.
Sure didn't get spring rain but yesterday a storm moved in, I got hail, then sheets of rain, then pouring rain with high gusty winds and then in less in 30 min from start to first.. gone and back to blue sky's.. Thankfully not to much damage, need to replant some rows in the garden but the rain barrels are all full and the ground is soaked and small dips are all full with puddles today.. I really hope that the north gets some good rain.. friend of mine and co-work of DH headed north yesterday to give a hand in the evac.

I live maybe 45 minutes from you Farmgal and we didn't get One single drop of rain!! I had to water the garden today from my rain barrels!
Any updates on this bushfire? Is it under control yet? Is everyone still OK?

the radar shows that they should be getting a good soaking of rain today. here is hoping!!
Timmins seems to be in the the clear now. Some of the people who had to leave are being allowed back.
Kirkland Lake is still on a three hour evacuation notice. This weeks forcast is cooler with rain. As long as the wind stays down we should be OK.
Thanks for the updates ICRCC...the map was also very useful.
Those rainy days you were saving for...may not be quelled by cash.
Good to here be safe
Timmins has now ended the state of emergency.
