When the WHO declared the global pandemic, I knew right away that things were going to get ugly. As of March 13th 2020, I have decided that my family needs to go into a bug in situation. This was always the plan, the proverbial trigger has been pulled! Here is a daily update on what we face.
Day 3
Posting this on day 4 because the information overload had me completely wiped yesterday. A lot happened, not really for me directly, but in general. A huge part of the day is dedicated to recon as far as the situation out in the general public is concerned. We have 3 sources of information that we have been following…
Mainstream Media – don’t get me wrong, the MSM has degraded from news to political agenda in a lot of cases, however as far as numbers of cases reported, they are well ahead of all the online sources. The website run by John Hopkins, which has been used by a lot of people, just can’t or won’t update all that often. It may have accurate numbers first thing in the morning, but the MSM seems to be counting reported cases in Canada almost real time.
Social Media – Sure, toilet paper memes seem to have taken over the majority of my social media feeds, but there is still a lot of information shared. A lot of that information is from the MSM, but it is a big help when trying to monitor multiple news outlets.
Ham Radio – while monitoring HF bands could give me information from around the world, that is limited to the luck of the draw as far as receiving signals and someone actually talking about it. More useful, is my trusty Baofeng being tuned to listen to local law enforcement. This gives me information on police being called to disturbances at supermarkets, or perhaps an increase in petty crimes, such as shoplifting. I doubt I will hear too much about break and enter events, as a lot of people are home during the day now, when most of these crimes take place. A police scanner would also be helpful.
More news later today.
