Covid-19 : Our Bug In Day 1

When the WHO declared the global pandemic, I knew right away that things were going to get ugly. As of March 13th 2020, I have decided that my family needs to go into a bug in situation. This was always the plan, the proverbial trigger has been pulled! Here is a daily update on what we face.

Day 1

A declaration by the Quebec government that all schools in the province would be closed for 2 weeks was followed closely by Mrs.Denob’s boss closing the office “until further notice”. Thankfully we are both set up to be able to work from home. These two events, combined with the growing number of reports of grocery stores being cleared out were the reasons we decided that this was the time to enact our plan.

Although we had spent years preparing, we still didn’t have quite everything we needed. Prescription medications were an issue. Even though our doctors were more than willing to give us extra scripts for a one month supply, it turns out that the pharmacies simply do not have the inventory to fill them. We were only able to get a 2 week supply, but were assured that we could call when we needed more and have them delivered. We’ll be testing that out in about a month.

So one last trip for the meds, and a few last minute top offs of bread, milk, and whatever might be on sale. Even in our little town of about 5000, the store was getting empty. We were told that people from the larger town down the road had come to town due to shortages there. This is the last grocery run we will do until this is over.

As well of a plan that we thought we had made, it still needed a tweak. We had originally thought we would let the kids out into the yard to play, but given the state of affairs, we decided against that. There are reports of fights, looting, and even a gun being pulled at a store in Ontario…things are getting dangerous fast.

More news tomorrow.
