rubidoom,

Good to hear from you again. Great find.

I hope all who can make it, will be there. I, unfortunately, have to work.

Whomever, is able to attend this event please, post what you saw and how well the event was received by the general public.

This should offer a great opportunity to network with members in the First Responder Community.

Cheers,

Mountainman.

I have this one up on the blog here...
http://www.canadianpreppersnetwork.com/2013/04/calgary-preparedness-events.html
look at the second image.
I think this is more of a 72 hrs are you prepared government type of thing...great for beginners and we should point as many people to things like this as we can,
but it may not be of much value to the more seasoned prepper.
I could also be wrong (it's been known to happen, just ask my wife!)

Hey gc, sorry I just saw this thread. The disaster alley expo is put on by the city, primarily by CEMA (Calgary emergency management agency). It is a two sides event to teach people how to look after themselves for 72 hours after an emergency, and also to show them what they can expect from emergency responders.

I do not know exactly what they will have there for booths or displays, but it would be a good idea for people to stop by and check it out. Most of us will be prepared beyond wht they will be talking about, however it will be good for everyone to see just what the city has planned in the event of an emergency.

Also, as a side note, this is a FANTASTIC opportunity to expose people to the world of prepping! It would be much easier to talk to your friends and family and neighbours about being prepared if they are at an expo put on by the municipal government, and nt by some survivalist group. If the "man" says its good for me then maybe I should do it!". Use this chance to get your people thinking about preparedness.

The city of Calgary is really on the leading edge of disaster management in this regard. Preparedness expos are a great way to get people thinking for themselves. The province and the city realize that after disasters like Katrina and sandy, there is NO WAY they can possibly provide aid for everyone. It is much easier to spend $100 teaching someone how to be prepared then to spend $100 on food or water that will help very few people. Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and he survives a disaster 😀

See you all after.

I went and it had great info, they even had a display of a 72hour kit for a animal. A lot was geared towards kids, and families but I picked up a pile of info. Not to mention swag, pens, t-shirt,Mylar emergency blanket(I missed out on a really good survival blanket for forest rescue, the last one was handed out to the person ahead of me) collapsing campfire water bucket, and a dynamo powered flashlight. I'll try to post pictures later.

Next year get there early, the good swag went quick
