I'm in Edmonton as well. I attended the last meeting with the crew from the South in Beiseker and they are very well organized. Great people. I am very keen to meet with some local people. Why don't we set a date and a place for here in Edmonton?

How does September 8th at noon in Laurier Park (by the Zoo) sound?

I am pretty sure I can make it then - count me in!
Looking forward to it.

JG

Sounds good. It's on, then.

At the Southern Alberta meeting, they set a primary bug out location. I think we should do the same. Any other topics you want to talk about? Items you'd like to know about or show off?

My wife and I are from Hinton, we are looking at the Edson area for land to start doing some preper work. More localized people would be a great source of support so count us in. My work keeps me busy 80+hours a week but weekends are off. Let us know where and when.

So far it looks like Sept. 8 at Laurier Park, near the zoo. I would think, noon sounds like a good time to meet.

Yes. Sept 8th at noon.

I'll get there a little early. Look for a black GMC Terrain parked near a pincic table. I'll try to get a spot close to the entrance.

I am new to this website, and really new to prepping. My husband thinks I am insane, but willing to deal with me. LOL I would be interested in meeting other preppers. I live in Fort Saskatchewan, right outside Edmonton. I am really gonna need help. Right now I am focusing on harvesting my garden and learning how to store as much food as I can long term. I have been trying to figure out bug out bags, how do u fit all this stuff u are supposed to have in a tiny backpack!? Seems impossible. I have been reading about edible and medicinal plants and have finally caved in to the no gun rule and decided to take up hunting with my husband. Probably won't be hunting with him this year, as I am not confident enough yet, but hopefully after Christmas my aim will be better. Practise makes perfect. Any ideas, or websites would be greatly appreciated as I said I am just learning and need all the help I can get. I am more than willing to help others with what I do know.

Welcome Dolphingirl74 and greetings from Northern Ontario.

You should be able to fit at least your 72 hour emergency kit into your bug out bag. Many people here go way beyond that and for good reasons. Each member of your family requires their own BOB. After that you would need to consider how you are going to bug out. Do you have transportation or would you be on foot? If you are foot you have to carry your BOB. If it is too heavy it is of no use. If you have transportation then you can get a larger kit and go to "town" filling it with everything you will need.

Well said ICRCC. I will add one addendum... even if you plan to bug out with a vehicle always keep in mind that "the best laid plans of mice and men"... if it comes that you HAVE to walk... make sure you can carry your minimum. To accomplish this keep your bug out bag bare minimum and add the "luxuries" to your vehicle. If worst comes to worst and you have to hoof it you won't have to be making choices and repacking everything to go it on foot. Just my thoughts.

look into camping/hiking store and ask them to set you up with and external frame hiking backpack. they are ergonimically designed to allow you to carry more weight then a standard backpack. they put the weight on your hips instead of your shoulders and back. Ask them to help size you for a proper one, and of course TRY IT BEFORE YOU BUY IT!!! cant be stressed enough. The external fram will allow you to put any additional items you need quick access too, or just dont want to put into the bag directly on the frame for easy access.

See you all after.

Also some places will allow you to rent equipment so you can get a feel for what works for you.
