Quite a few counties/townships in Ontario have them.

Care is need when installing driveway alarm, CCTV, as well as intruder resistant door jams and window protection.

Quite true, three years or was it four years ago we got a notice that we were not longer allowed to bar our windows or doors, as it was considered to be a barrior to preventing police or fire fighters being able to enter your home if required.

the bars also make it harder to shoot out the window at intruders if your using a shot gun loaded with buck shot. you would need to put the end of the muzzel past the bars.

I would never have bars on my windows as it would make your home a target, looks like your trying to protect something or it looks like it would be a good place to take over because it is safe. i think it would be better to blend in.

As far as I know there are no 'laws' against installing IR driveway alarms or CCTV systems on private property anywhere in Canada as long as the cameras do not invade someones privacy or monitor the public. And as far as I know using a floor bolt or a brace on exterior doors is ok too. I have both in my home.

Permanent bars on windows are not ok with the 'law' in many areas but roll down security/storm shutters are.

When a lady friend of mine, came up to visit me from the states, she was amazed that there weren’t any bars on the windows here in London.

Wow. I am surprised that they can tell people that they cannot install CCTV or IR driveway sensors. I had to laugh at the no observation towers law. Would a tree fort be classified as am observation tower. Sounds all very police state to me.

If I lived there I would install the cameras and IR sensors, door braces and floor bolts and not tell a soul. In decades of home ownership I have never had a by-law officer even step foot on my property.
