Been slacking on "prepping" for months as focus has been on the new baby boy and firewood and building our new sugar shack.
Finally got around to bumping up the food stores after visiting my aunt & uncles market garden to grab all their extra vegetables they were no longer picking. Ended up filling the fullsized truckbed 3x!

Two Baofeng UV5RE PLUS portable HAM radios. Extra capacity batteries. Antennas for extended range. Multiple chargers for 12v and home charging. Push-to-talk handset and air tube headsets. The entire package with accessories for under $200.
The Baofeng can also be used for MURS or as a portable FM radio.
As of June 2014, Industry Canada will allow Multi-Use Radio Service (MURS) on our shores, following the lead of the U.S. MURS is similar to CB radio, in that it does not, unlike HAM, need a license to transmit.

That looks like a terrific package deal! It would be interesting to get a review. The price looks great for all this but I remain skeptical as per the old adage "if it sounds too good..."

A review would be great!

very nice Joe, do you have a recipe book for the beer? Been looking for a recipe for Waterloo Amber 🙂
After I get my mead racked, I'd like to try my hand at beer. It's getting way too pricey.

Hey Wolf,
For beer, right now i'm just using the kits from either Bulk Zone or sometimes Superstore. I've got 3 of the 5 gallon pails with lids and 3 of the big glass carboys Plus a bunch of 1 gallon glass jugs I'm playing around with as well for "Hobo Wine".
2 of the 1 gallon jugs are fermenting now and I have two batches of beer on the go as well, one that will be bottled tomorrow or Saturday.
And you are right...way to costly at the stores now. And far too much of the cost is the damned taxes. I've switched over to making it myself and, so far, I'm liking it better too.

IFAKs (Individual First Aid Kits or Improved First Aid Kits)
I have pictured a pocket sized kit and a larger 'full sized' kit that can be worn on the body or carried in a backpack. Most of the supplies have been made smaller and individually sealed in plastic using a kitchen food sealing machine. Any clear plastic of a certain thickness can be used to make custom packaging. Labels are from a hand-held 'label maker'.
There are many websites offering advice on contents. Consider weight and compactness. Also consider how far away you will be from a hospital.
