Covid-19 : Our Bug In Day 17

When the WHO declared the global pandemic, I knew right away that things were going to get ugly. As of March 13th 2020, I have decided that my family needs to go into a bug in situation. This was always the plan, the proverbial trigger has been pulled! Here is a daily update on what we face.

Day 17 –

I’ve been pretty secure in my thinking that I’m pretty squared away with my preps and we’re going to ride this out without too much problems or damage. What I hadn’t thought about is what else could go wrong.

That was brought back to the forefront of my thoughts at 3:20 AM when an earthquake got me out of bed thinking my house was falling down! Without giving away too much OPSEC, let’s just say that this was WAY to close to be ignored. In any case, there was really no damage, but the reminder that other stuff can hit the fan anytime.

On top of that, when “real” morning came, so did the seasonal rains. We haven’t had a lot of luck with regional flooding the past few spring thaws around here. On top of Covid-19 updates and everything that goes with it, now we have to remember to keep an eye out for rain warnings with a reminder of possible flooding. Don’t get me wrong, if my house is in danger of flooding, I’m going to be looking for the guy loading animals on a boat, but ti can mean travel issues at a time when it’s already a testy thing given that some regions are posting police on the roads to keep people out.

To top it all off, there is a medical condition in the house right now that will require professional intervention at the hospital within the next few days. The hospital is not on my list of places I want to be right now, but this is the only logical course of action. This is not a cut that we can suture at home and follow up with some fishmox.

Watching the locals, I can tell that some people just aren’t doing the “stay at home” thing very well. The same set of people seem to be going out on an irregular basis. Not long enough for a work shift, longer than just getting out for a few minutes, and no one needs to go for groceries 2 or 3 times a day. I’ve also noticed an unmarked white van driving by on a somewhat regular basis…just a bit sketchy. I’ll be monitoring for break & enter calls on the police frequency.
