When the WHO declared the global pandemic, I knew right away that things were going to get ugly. As of March 13th 2020, I have decided that my family needs to go into a bug in situation. This was always the plan, the proverbial trigger has been pulled! Here is a daily update on what we face.
Day 19 –
Almost 3 weeks in and it’s a mixed bag of waiting to implement plans, information gathering and sorting, and going grey man.
The waiting is probably the most nerve racking part of it all. Unfortunately, I can’t do much to quicken the thaw out process. It’s a matter of having plans in place and waiting. Most of the plans we are waiting on are outdoor and have to deal with food production. Indoor seed starting just doesn’t seem to be satisfying the need to get food in the ground.
Information gathering now includes regular neighborhood recon trips. Just a little drive around our little lake here tells me that we have an issue with cottagers. That rusty white van I’ve been seeing actually goes to a house under renovation down the road. I have mixed feelings about the renovations going on. Two houses right across the street from me are being renovated or built right now. While I can’t blame people from trying to get their future homes in order, I also can’t help being concerned about virus transmission into our area from regions such as Montreal, which seems to be the country’s epicenter right now.
Going grey at this point in time seems to mean actually going out for supplies. Let’s face it, preppers in Canada are few and far between so most people are going shopping on a semi regular basis. This means in order to blend in, we need to be at least seen as doing the same. Our supply runs however will be less focused on actual food supplies and more focused on future projects. Of course, no one knows what’s in those shopping bags…let them think it’s milk & bread!
More news tomorrow…
