Maximizing Your Preparedness Dollars

Let’s face it, being prepared can cost money. Stocking up on weeks, months, or a year or more of life’s basics will test your wallet. But there are ways to mitigate this.

Number one is to concentrate as much cash as you can on basics that are used every day in your household. This eliminates waste and the feeling that you are spending hard earned money on things you may never use.

Number two is to take full advantage of sales, such as Black Friday, Boxing Day, or even weekly specials at the stores you already shop at. Ignore the calls for “no spend” days…the savings are just too important if you are buying smart (you don’t really NEED that new 55″ television, but there might be a great sale on toilet paper).

Number three is to know your prices. I often pass over what looks like a good deal at Costco because I know that regular grocery store sales will get me a better price.

Many preppers achieve this with a price binder. A notebook of sorts that you use to track how low prices will drop on regularly purchased items, and how long between sales. Simply track what you pay for items at what date. Before long you will see a patern in the price drops and be able to predict when you can expect to see those savings.
