Clean out the pantry and do some good at the same time!

As preppers we have to keep a close eye on expiry dates. Certainly, we all practice FIFO (First In First Out) and rotate our food stocks to keep everything as fresh as possible, but still, we sometimes overstock on dry and canned goods.

Every once in a while we all have to check dates on canned goods and dry ingredients and either use up the oldest stuff or get rid of it. We tend to do this once a year, so why not make a point of doing it a week or two before Christmas?

This is the time of year where everyone seems to be trying to pick you pockets clean. Don’t get me wrong, I believe in giving to the less fortunate, but clearing out the change in my pocket doesn’t seem to be the best idea.

That’s why we make a point of checking our food storage this time of year. Anything that will be expiring within a few months goes to a local food bank. Let me be clear, we don’t give to the organizations that give baskets to the same people week after week. We found a charity that gives to those in real need, such as those affected by a house fire or other tragedy. It just seems to make more sense.

Why not clear out your nearly expired goods and do some good in your town at the same time?
