It would be very disturbing to not be allowed into a group because I believe in God and therefore would not be considered "like-minded" because not everyone does...chances are each of us are valuable people to have in any group...the ones with no skills to offer are not checking out this site because they are not "like-minded".

After spending some time here, I've seen a lot of references to the bible, bible quotes and a few mentions of the apocalypse. Are most people here theists or religious? To what extent does your religion inform your prepping plans?
Perhaps I am the odd one out - I am not religious."
So after flogging this issue, and each other 😉 for a month now, I think it's safe to say that like our broader culture, there is a mix of beliefs and non-beliefs among our little community. Like the broader culture as well, for the most part we are all pretty happy to live our lives as we have been taught without antagonizing those that don't share our views save for when provoked or drawn into debate. I don't believe that Lgsbrooks has any more need to worry that she and hers would not be welcomed into our community for being a thiest any more than I would expect to be turned away for being the opposite. It's worked well enough in my own marriage and I can't imagine why it wouldn't work in a small community like ours.
As for "skills"; ours is such a small community that we will only ever be short of them, not turning away people for not having them. Everyone has some skill to contribute even if it's pushing a broom or shoveling sh1t. That is my skill set by the way. 🙂

Needs must when the devil drives.
Nicely put. Antsy
I’m more into sh!t disturbing myself, or is that called distributing fertilizer. When the sh!t hit’s the fan, I’m normally be the one that tossed it. 😈

Exactly! My marriage also...my husband is a Buddhist & we simply agree to disagree
First item in my BOB is the Bible,I am a God fearing man.
Like others, I come to this thread quite late. Thanks everyone for the great reading material. I took no offense to anyone's statement.
As for where I stand, you didn't ask, but here goes anyways... I think faith and choices around spirituality (God, Buddha, Mohammed, Jesus) are each individual person's personal choice and I completely respect that. As long as you don't tell me what to believe, and don't tell me I'm wrong for my choices, we'll get along just fine. In fact, I find learning about other people's perspective usually quite fascinating.
Organized Religion is another story. Some of mankind's darkest moments throughout history and to present day have been done in the name of religion. Religion is man's invention. If there really is one God, why would there be so many versions of his truth? I realize there are good people doing good things too, but unfortunately wars, terrorism, murder, rape, and other atrocities done in the name of god or a particular organized religion, make any religious group something to be dealt with great trepidation. Notice I didn't say WRONG, just not for me and something that should not be assumed as "good" just by the name alone.
As for prepping and religion, I don't see it. I mean, I see it in scripture, but I don't think it's there because some religious guy wrote it down based on inspiration from god that you had to prep in order to embrace spirituality or godliness. I think that was expected for survival. Look at everyone up until the last few generations - farming, foraging, and hunting were all part of daily life. It's a relatively recent thing that we've come to depend on this magical thing called "the store" for everything we could need to survive. I think there will always be lazy and corrupt people (not necessarily the same people) who will live off the hard work of others and I think scripture is saying you have to help yourself survive and not depend on god or others for every basic need you have.
Just my two cents (I guess I have to say nickel now in Canada since we're phasing out the penny 😉 )
If life hands you lemons, be sure you have a battery backed up juicer to make some good ol' fashioned lemonade! 😉
My daughter asked me while in the car last year (she is 10 now) if I believed in God. I told her "No". She asked "Why not?" My response was "Does it matter if I do"? She thought about it a moment then replied "I guess not". I told her "Good. If I believe in a God or dont, it shouldnt matter to you because my answer could possibly affect what you believe in. What do you feel right now in your chest, in your heart... do feel there is a magical power out there and its God to you"? She said "Yes". I told her thats excellent. Every few years ask yourself that same question and stay true to it. Do whats right and you will be fine. You dont need to answer to any one person telling you what you should or shouldnt believe and how to do it. If there is a God up there, they know whats in your heart and you will be okay".
She never asked again and continues to be an excellent little human being the kind of which I am terribly proud of and can honestly say is more christian than most christians I have ever met. That may change over the years but right now, she is doing the right things and being a good human. Just like her dad does even though he doesnt feel what so ever that there is a magical anything in the universe. Just science.
We all too often impose our beliefs on others so that we can not feel alone, that we have a tribe to belong to. We do... that tribe is called the Human Race and thats good enough for me.
No matter how good or bad your life is, wake up each day thankful because someone somewhere else right now is fighting for theirs
