Here is an easy solution...
When you find a duplicate topic, simply click the report button and let us know...we can merge the topics and make everyone happy.
As for sub topics, I can't go too far as this puts more stress on the server.

Honestly I'm a little offended at Denobs response. This is an open forum and I was merely making a suggestion on how to make things better AND build consensus on an issue. To have the thread labelled as an example of members here "not thinking" is kind of extreme. The Alberta subsection is one of the busiest if not the busiest sections on International Preppers Network. We should have some say in how it's layed out and at the very least be able to make open and public suggestions. If the Eastern Canadian mods don't have time to help out it should perhaps be considered that we have a dedicated moderator just for Alberta. Don't get me wrong Anita, Denob and ICRCC, I Don't want this looked at as Western Seperation (hehe) but I hope you might see the value in this for the Alberta members. Again, this is not meant to offend so sorry in advance if it does.

Glasshouse,
I certainly did not intend to offend anyone, but to create a thread complaining about too many threads IS an example of not thinking.
Please, everyone, if you have a comment for the mods, please PM us instead of creating more threads that will eventually need to be cleaned up.

Is it possible to delete threads that have been inactive for say, 6 months or have been locked?
or to move them to an archive? Some of them may be the ones that could be merged as duplicates... I shall look for some I created that were specific to an event or time specific and try this 'report button'.

Shame on you Crashed; you need to get out of AB once in a while; you're worse than the gf who had never driven past SK until I dragged her kicking and screaming to NW Ontario 😆

Actually, stickies can be used here...just only by me and perhaps the other mods, but I'm not sure about that. The reason this is done is because we don't want every user to make stickies just to keep his/her topic at the top of a page. I'm not saying everyone would do this, but I think we could all see the potential for abuse.
I also proposed a cleanup of the board some time ago, and put several options to a vote. Clearly, those who responded thought it would be best to merge every general topic into the Canadian board, and reserve provincial boards to province specific topics such as meetups, etc. There are 2 reasons this has not yet been implimented.
1 - It's a huge undertaking. The board currently has 2250 topic headings.
2 - It won't stop people from duplicating topics.
Members simply don't look or think before they post. Sorry to be blunt but it's true.
A perfect example is this thread. Perhaps a PM to one of the mods would have been a better way to get our attention.
Just an example of how the members are responsible to try to keep this board clean.

to create a thread complaining about too many threads IS an example of not thinking.

The post was about duplicates and lack of organization not about too many posts. I think it's a valid concern. Stickies are good. I like them. That doesn't mean that if I want them and I send you a PM you are going to jump on it and implement them here. But if other people like them too and they reply to the post saying it then maybe you'll think about it, right? That's why I think this was a good post and not a waist of resources. Actually I didn't know resources on the server are limited and that we should refrain from starting new posts. That's good to know.

Having stickies won't prevent all the people from posting duplicates but will stop some of them. And at least they won't have an excuse.
Now I know from talking to actually doing it it's a long run and it will require lots of work from your side but at least we'll know why we don't have them. And if we know the problems maybe we can find the solutions.

All the best
