Hey guys, We are seeing a rise in threads with recurring themes (precious metals, economic collapse, bug in/out, SHTF SCENARIOS, etc...). Just wondering if we can stick some of these more popular topics to the top of the Alberta board to avoid duplicates? This is a great board but I'm a sucker for simplicity and organization 🙂
its bound to happen i suppose. weve had what seems like an explosion of new members and everyone always wants to know the same things... unfortunatley now that we have well over 10 pages of content on our alberta boards alone, most people dont bother to read through them all.
I vote for stickies!
I've never seen a forum before that didn't use them; I didn't even realize until glass mentioned it. All these 'general topic' threads that people start under their provincial headings just add to the confusion and have us drowning in too much repetitive information.
Stickies would help, as would moving threads to proper locations if the moderators had time... I can barely keep up with AB, BC and SK now 😥
I vote for sticky threads and for like, dislike and such buttons
Actually, stickies can be used here...just only by me and perhaps the other mods, but I'm not sure about that. The reason this is done is because we don't want every user to make stickies just to keep his/her topic at the top of a page. I'm not saying everyone would do this, but I think we could all see the potential for abuse.
I also proposed a cleanup of the board some time ago, and put several options to a vote. Clearly, those who responded thought it would be best to merge every general topic into the Canadian board, and reserve provincial boards to province specific topics such as meetups, etc. There are 2 reasons this has not yet been implimented.
1 - It's a huge undertaking. The board currently has 2250 topic headings.
2 - It won't stop people from duplicating topics.
Members simply don't look or think before they post. Sorry to be blunt but it's true.
A perfect example is this thread. Perhaps a PM to one of the mods would have been a better way to get our attention.
Just an example of how the members are responsible to try to keep this board clean.
As for like/dislike buttons, the software used for this forum simply does not support this feature.
Like the sticks but please don't move everything around off the provincial boards, as a few of us ONLY visit our provincial sections.
Crashed - When I started here at CPN I didn't know that you could click Board Index at the top of the page and then a little lower down click on View Active topics. It's a way to sort all the most recent posts across Canadian Preppers with a few other countries included. It's a much easier way to navigate then to go board by board. I don't know if that would help you or if you REALLY only want to talk to people from Alberta.
Using the General Topics for ALL of Canadian Preppers is the way this board was originally set up - it has only gotten disorganized since everyone started using the provincial boards for topics other than regional content as Denob mentioned above.

Honestly I'm a little offended at Denobs response. This is an open forum and I was merely making a suggestion on how to make things better AND build consensus on an issue. To have the thread labelled as an example of members here "not thinking" is kind of extreme. The Alberta subsection is one of the busiest if not the busiest sections on International Preppers Network. We should have some say in how it's layed out and at the very least be able to make open and public suggestions. If the Eastern Canadian mods don't have time to help out it should perhaps be considered that we have a dedicated moderator just for Alberta. Don't get me wrong Anita, Denob and ICRCC, I Don't want this looked at as Western Seperation (hehe) but I hope you might see the value in this for the Alberta members. Again, this is not meant to offend so sorry in advance if it does.
No offence taken, not at all. Canada is a vast country posting in the provincial sections is a barometer of how many active preppers there are in each region. I am in favor of posts in Provincial forums. I always surf them and often make comments. Only once has it been suggested to me that not being from that province I should not post there. Any way I think you can see where the Moderators are coming from. This sit is big and getting bigger, what is more it is very active. Duplication is a problem and it is on the rise. To ensure that the site is useful there has to be some semblance of order. If we allow the duplication to get away from us the site will become a disaster.
What do other members think? What suggestions do you have to handle duplication? Stickies are one for sure. However if we have a sticky for say "precious metals" we don't want to have thirteen of them, that would make duplication a nightmare. Again we are looking for workable solutions. Let us know.
How deep can you go on sub-forums with this forum? I have been a mod before and faced this same situation. If you can separate Canada into Alberta (which you have done) and then break Alberta down into cities such as Calgary (big undertaking) or perhaps even zones such as Northern Alberta, Central Alberta and Southern Alberta that would work for the locations part of this but then specific categories such as Precious Metals, Winter Survival, Weapons, Personal Protection, Food, and so on.... I am not sure where you would fit those categories into the mix other than to let them be made inside the location such as Central Alberta. Once made you could as mentioned, sticky them so they stay at the top of the threads.
Kind of like this:
Canada
Alberta
- Northern Alberta
-Central Alberta
- Precious metals
- Food
- Guns
-BOV's
-BOB's
-BOL's
-Southern Alberta
British Columbia
Manitoba
No matter how good or bad your life is, wake up each day thankful because someone somewhere else right now is fighting for theirs
personally I like it the way that it is right now. The alberta forums have taken on a life of their own, but I think that this is a good thing. Sure there may be double posts every now and again, but the more active our forum appears, the more people will join up. I know that for me personally, when I began searching for other like minded individuals, the first thing I typed into google was "Alberta Preppers". guess which link came up! the link directley to the alberta preppers forums. not the CPN... the APN. when I arrived I was amazed at how active the people in the thread were. I speant days and days pretty much just sifting through all the information that could be had before I started posting my own contributions. after about I month I began to explore the other general forums.
And as far as sub categories... THERE ARE sub catagories. just go to the board index and look up any channel that you want.
I say keep it the way it is! I dont want to be afraid of asking a question or starting a thread because it doesnt "fit in" with one of the sub threads or stickies.
See you all after.
despite my suggestion above... I am with Buggie... I think its fine. I just click on Alberta or View Your Own Posts and go from there. If its a duplicate... no worries. Small potatoes.

When the same topics are posted and reposted, they begin to be ignored by people that may have valuable information to cobtribute. It's not that people should live in fear of asking questions it's that we can present information better if it is organized and not a free for all. Whatever happens will happen. Either way I enjoy this place I was only wanting to help. I still think we'd benefit from some stickies.
No need for more sub threads just stickies like:
-Introduce Yourself
-precious Metals
- bugging in/out
- what SHTF means to you
- South meetings
- North meetings
I'm sure you guys get the idea!
