gmurphy: A tip every day or two sounds like a great idea. It gives everyone some time to discuss and would be helpful to remind us of some things we've overlooked. So, bring it on.

Hi, Cheap Solar Panels, try Princess auto 15 w @ 99.00, 12 volt battery as low as 49.00, and inverters as low as 29.00. 12 volt camper type lights 7.00, and wire very cheap. They also have lots of plastic boxes and stuff to put batterys and inverters in. good luck. 😀

hello all, been a busy weekend, i'll start by saying that the flood activity is really picking up. For those preppers in and around the affected areas, stay safe!!
so i was reading through my new book and came across a decent piece of info so here it is.

#347 Building fire on snow- you will need a two layer fire platform of green branches.

step #1- lay down a row of three foot green, wrist thick, branches. Then lay another row perpindicular on top of the first

step #2 - collect lots of dry tinder (birch bark, pine needles) and make a pile about as big as your fist .- * if its raining or snowing pocket lint or bits orf shirt material will also work, provided they are dry

step #3 - Plan your fire so it dries wet wood as it burns. Put large branch or dry rock across back of the fire , arrange wet the wet wood across the fire a couple inches apart above the flame. Do not criss cross the wood, laying the wood parallel will help the drying process.

The weather was half decent today, it was nice to see some sunshine for a change!!

ICRCC,
no problem, glad you found it useful. Yes GO HEAVY ON THE BIRCH BARK!!!!!! i have used this technique myself in northern bc while working in the bush... it does work!!!

Just a quick note to everyone, umm the book im getting this info from has alot of pictures that go along with the descriptions. so im trying to pass along the info that doesn't require i picture to help illustrate the concept. I will admit that im finding this a bit of a challenge as most of this info is acompaniedcby a picture. If at any point the info im posting gets to confussing due to lack of pictures please say so. Theres no point in passing on info that confuses the hell out everyone. The book is called "The total outdoorsman manual-374 skills you need" it is published by good ol' Field and Stream

I read somewhere that California has the fifth largest economy in the world. You know it's gotta say sumthin' when cities start going down in an economy that size. Put that together with the Eurozone crisis, the saber rattling between Syria and Turkey, US/Isreal growling at Iran, North & South Korea poking at each other and finally the Chinese being upset over naval sovierenty. What does it all mean? That's an easy question, PREPPERS ARE ALL CRAZY!!! 😆
I won't bother with the subject of natural disasters because that would prove that I'm nuts. 😀

Anyway, that's my 2 cents worth. 🙄

I really believe the more off the gride and self sufficent, the better we will be. This is only going to get worst and the ones that will make it through this are the people that have prepared. So if it makes me a nutter to what to learn and impulment as much as possible to live that life style then talk to me when TSHTF.

Oh and to the ones that want to talk about me behind my back.....could you just bend over a little bit more and Kiss my A**!

Wow, lots of posts since I was last able to check this thread. Regarding heading towards an airport, on that front I'm aware that not many people are aware of how to fly a plane, but the airport is exactly where I'm heading first thing. Immediate evac, with a normal "endurance/range" of about 5 hours, give or take. That's between 500 and 700 Nautical miles of travel with a small cessna. As for defaults, I was discussing with someone the other day how student loans debts are pretty prohibitive right now. Talk about shackled ball and chain. The point was made that if hockey fans can riot over a hockey game, what's to stop those with important and major concerns from doing the same? or worse.

My personal assessment of the likelihood of civil unrest based on debt, unemployment, and other financial related problems is high, especially in the next 10 years. The only thing at this point that I can see having the ability to stop that in its tracks is another global conflict, IE: Threat of nuclear attack, massive invasion, or all out urban warfare. Either way, war is imminent, and I would highly recommend some sort of plan for acquiring fast evac, or fortifying a home until evac on foot is feasible.

H

Prepare for the worst
Hope for the best

Hammer you definatley have an advantage by holding a pilots lisence. But don't you think that the airports would be shut down or under military/police control?? The senario thats in my mind is something like a major earthquake, maybe even civil unrest. Im just thinking that local government officals would restrict public access as an airport is a key piece of ground for the military etc. Im no expert on this kind of stuff just thinking out loud.

Hi Gmurphy:

Would you have any idea at all what happened to my Little Things Posting? It is not there at all anymore. Seems very strange.
