Hi all, it is amazing what kind of prepping materials one can find in a dollar store, value village or discount bin at the local walmart. i have found lots of stuff, fishing tackle, band-aids, pocket knives, shampoo, whistles, lots of batteries. Anyone else find useful prepping items in these type of stores??

To be perfectly honest, I had been given them and was skeptical at first. But I subsequently got lost attempting to complete my Duke of Edinburgh Gold award (2 night 3 day self planned hike through unfamiliar territory as a team). We were in Powell River, lost, soaked, and one of the group was injured. Those sticks literally saved the day. Absolute necessity.

get the catholic candles that are sold in the dollar stores. put in hot water to remove the sticker if you want. candles have high wax content so they burn for a long period of time. you know those catholics and long services.

EDITED UPDATE Canadian Tire, as 114 these stores across Canada are NOT closing in the near future.

I had a great time at one of my local dollar stores today and okay, I went a bit overboard.

As the owner is checking my purchases through he decides to give me all of my Seed packets (Which were on at 4 for $1 to start with) so I walked away with 16 packs of seeds for free!
These I will grow and can as the expiry date is less than a year.
After I had finished the guy says "Do you drink wine?" Hell yeah! So he goes back into the isles and comes back with a battery operated wine chiller, which he gives me for free and smiles and says - "When the SHTF and you've made your own wine - at least you will be able to enjoy civilization a while longer".

I hope there are more like him if it does come to crunch time.

Be prepared!

(Reuters) - Canadian Tire Corp offered to take full ownership of the country's largest sporting goods retailer, Forzani Group Ltd, for C$771 million ($798.5 million) in cash as it looks to battle rising competition from U.S. rivals.

Canadian Tire, which currently holds about 4 percent of Forzani Group's shares, offered C$26.50 for each Forzani share -- a premium of 50 percent over the stock's Friday's close.
