i sent a messsage to site admin. maybe they can help, that is kinda strange.
Hammer you definatley have an advantage by holding a pilots lisence. But don't you think that the airports would be shut down or under military/police control?? The senario thats in my mind is something like a major earthquake, maybe even civil unrest. Im just thinking that local government officals would restrict public access as an airport is a key piece of ground for the military etc. Im no expert on this kind of stuff just thinking out loud.
No, you're right mostly. The key is timing. The sooner one is wheels up (off the ground), the harder it is to prevent. And a knowledge of military aviation protocol is also valuable. As for me, my local airport isn't large enough to serve as even an emergency landing spot, unless it's a Buffalo (search and rescue plane). But you have a valid point. There is the potential for a complete lockdown of air traffic. Hadn't really thought of it. Thanks.

Rember Be Prepared
happy canada day everyone!!! hope you all enjoyed your day. I picked up an intresting prep this weekend, a couple hewing axes. for those that are wondering what the hell im talking about, the really old school way of turning a round log into a square beam..... by hand!!! no chainsaw, just a strong back, and alot of elbow grease. If you look up "hewing" on youtube you will see what im talking about. After watching a few videos on the topic, and doing some brief reading i now haave a new respect for the pioneers that built cabins by hand using these type of methods.
here's a conversation piece..... the department of homeland security( a branch of the US government) has ordered 450million rounds of .40 caliber hollow point ammo. depnding on which article you read and how much you want to beileve, the US government is preparing for a serious case of civil unrest. Or they are going to do alot of target practice....with really expensive ammo. If any of this is true, i wonder how this will affect canada. Hmmm???.......
Well, i don't want to speculate. However, hollowpoint ammunition was developed to maintain the penetrating power of s bullet after initial impact, and increase mushroom effect after penetration. Hollowpoint ammunition is known for its stopping power. I'll let you draw your own conclusions from that.

well after many emails and a few phone conversations, i leave tomorrow to meet up with a fellow prepper that i have meet on this forum. I look forward to this meetup as it is another opertuntity to share ideas and expand my network. Should be a good time, i haven't been back to the interior for a while.
That is good news. Have a great trip and an even better meet.
Have fun Gmurphy and stay safe. There are many hostile animals abound, so watch out. As for the arrival, say hi for me. Let me know how it goes, hooefully smoothly.

hello everyone, i have arrived at my destination!! It sure is beautiful country up here, and quiet!!!! The bus trip was long and mostly painful, but the highlight was when a girl from vancouver asked the bus driver to please park the bus on some pavement because she didn't want to get dirty when stepping off the bus!!
I was wondering what kind of person awaited me when i arrived but i will say that Chilcotin is a very down to earth guy. No foil hat, no crazy ideas about zombies, and he does not have 5000 rounds of ammo stored under his bed. So far this meet has more then exceeded my expectations. Tomorrow we take a trek out into the bush to scout around. Stay tuned......

Well, I looked into that too, basically it is an equivalent of 7 year steady fighting ammo expenditure of Iraq war based on 04-05 data. That's a lot of ammo. What is disturbing, it will most likely be used on North American territory only and for two reasons. First, 40 cal is used mostly in US and Canada, it really is not very popular anywhere else. Second various international treaties ban use of expanding projectiles by militaries but strangely it is ok for use by law enforcement, well the stopping capability is undeniable. It also would not be used by various branches of US military as they have converted to 9mm some years back or some branches may still be issuing 45ACP's gear.
There is also a possibility given the corrupt and incompetent state of american politics that someone signed this deal for a very sweet kick back. Of course it would eventually surface and that someone would go to jail. The other thing is, the decision could have been made by someone completely ignorant bureaucrat who simply ordered wrong stuff but I think that's a long shot.
One thing is sure, the ammo stays on this continent and the army won't use it. They won't get all 450 million of it over night but rather over time but still, I find it very disturbing and it does have the "something's up" writing all over it.
Any ideas ?

Ask me at the end of October. Maybe even as soon as the end of September.

If you want to make a vest try using either fibreglass or composite kavlar as well as honeycomb steel mesh which you can buy from Home Depot. You will also need a good resin and thick gauged Fire screen cageing like the type used for fireplace gaurds. You should layer and cut like you are designing a vest leaving the back as your entry for your torso, chest and sides. Only layer the kavlar in thin layers, then cutting and using a layer of mesh, then going back to a layer of kavlar always repeating and resening with hardener very lightly. Remember you only want to form the vest as you layer. Place a half inch to 3 quater inch trauma plate of steel in your vital area and remember to kavlar and weave quick fast sap buckles to the back of your vest as the front has to stay one piece. You should only go approximately three layers to stop small calibre wepons ie, .22,.38.44 the trauma plate should be strong enough to stop at least a 12. gauge slug and or 5.56 or 7.62 in single shot mode. The bigger you are the more layers you may place but remember the weight ratio to vest and body size. Incorporating resins will solidify the kavlar and hold in place the mesh and trauma plate. Practice first with paper machette and steel wool. Once you have the armour design the way you like start using the real products to build your vest. Remember to paint the vest black and use 1000 denier straps anywhere where you do not want to have hardened or chaffing. Its your armour build it to hang low to groing and add a neck gaurd if you feel vulnerable ie, .22 proof for the neck. You can get this material from kayaking and marine shops as well as Rona and Home Depot and Home hardware. Try it out on a dummy in the field and then just replace and resin the spots you shot.
