Now that the exchange rate has tanked, probably not much being bought from USA. I have found a company in Ogdensburg, New York, across from Prescott, ON, that can supply you with a USA address. This is a complete address, not a PO box number.
Its free to get your address. Cost is CAD 5 per parcel when you pick up your packages. You get an email notification that a parcel has arrived. They will hold it for a year. Its all pretty simple. The Ogdensburg bridge crossing has a monster Wallymart nearby as well. I am given to undrrstand that WM in the USA carries sbout 30.% more products than in Canada.
You can take advantage of free shipping by WM by having goods delivered there. With your USA addrress you can take advantage of free or low cost shipping, inside USA or from international suppliers.
Go to myusaddress.ca if you might be interested.
Oh, yes, you will have to pay duty and taxes, but if you go during non peak times it literally takes only minutes.
thanks for the info
I'm in Thunder Bay. Up this way, just across the border, there is a store that holds packages for pickup there as well. $3.00 a parcel. We use them a lot. "Ryden's Border Store" for anyone in the area that is interested.
I've been using Kinek for about 3 years now. I go just across from Gananoque to Wellesley Island. The store there is a really nice shop called Wellesley Island Building Supply.
They will hold the package indefinitely and are great folk to deal with. I've shipped thousands of dollars worth of product there and had free shipping. When it all shows up I take an afternoon and go get it all. It's about a 4 hour round trip but worth it. Just pay your taxes at the border and done!
Every location so far is a bit of a jaunt for me....anyone have a location states side near Niagara Falls or Sarnia (Port Huron, MI)

Yep. I'm in Kitchener and I've used USAddress.com for years. It's 5 minutes from the Queenston/Lewiston crossing and it's $5 a package. I think you need to sign up online, but I'm not sure, it's been so long.
I've only ever had to pay duty twice and the last time was because I was bringing back commercial goods. I almost always buy 12-24 bottles of microbrew and tell them I have it. Most times I just get waved through. I don't tell them how big the bottles are, though 😉
Em ty
What are you getting brand-wise for the brew? Got a favorite bottle shop you recommend?
Back on topic. I've been doing some research on courier UPS/Fedex brokerage fees. Apparently you can do your own self clearance on packages sent from US via courier. You pay your duty/taxes, but don't get stuck with outrageous brokerage fees. It's a huge moneymaking scam for the courier companies in my opinion.
