When the WHO declared the global pandemic, I knew right away that things were going to get ugly. As of March 13th 2020, I have decided that my family needs to go into a bug in situation. This was always the plan, the proverbial trigger has been pulled! Here is a daily update on what we face.

Day 10 –

The focus is expanding now. In addition to monitoring police frequencies for indications of civil unrest, keeping a keener eye on our immediate surroundings, and closely watching politicians for indications of future actions, we are also looking to mitigate losses and control expenses in the months to come.

With the indoor greenhouse on the way for seed starting, we are planing a good sized garden this spring and are looking at seed inventory and looking at sources. We are paying particular attention to growing vegetables that we can store here at home. With a cold room, pressure canner, and dehydrator, we have lots of options in addition to freezing. Honestly, I would love to have a home freeze dryer, but they remain expensive and it’s something we need to save up for.

We are currently waiting to be able to pick up the kids’ belongings from their school. This will be done by appointment only, I’m assuming to limit the number of people entering the school at any given time. I highly doubt that school will continue for this year, so some regular schooling will be needed to keep their minds sharp. We’ll be supplementing that with typical gardening lessons with an emphasis on “hands on” learning!
