When the WHO declared the global pandemic, I knew right away that things were going to get ugly. As of March 13th 2020, I have decided that my family needs to go into a bug in situation. This was always the plan, the proverbial trigger has been pulled! Here is a daily update on what we face.
Day 11 –
The world around us went a little wild today when the Premiere announced that all non-essential businesses would close by Tuesday at midnight. The biggest problem with that is they didn’t provide a list of what they considered essential businesses until much later.
A lot of people, myself included, went out to score what they thought they would need. As for myself, I’m good to go as far as food goes, but there were other plans in the works that suddenly seemed like they had to be ramped up. One such project was my indoor seed starting. The plan was to get seeds and starting trays by online shopping, but I was no longer sure that this would be an option.
I learned that social distancing is just not working. Sure, the store I went to was limiting the number of customers in the store at a time and telling people to use the hand sanitizer at the door, but the customers inside just weren’t giving the distance between themselves that they should. This was especially true where the seeds and trays were located. I was lucky enough to get the last 3 trays and all the seeds that I wanted. I even found the little yellow cherry tomatoes that the Mrs. enjoys so much (bonus points were earned for that). However, I would recommend that you only venture to stores if you absolutely have to…many people still just don’t get it!
PPE seems to be getting more socially acceptable. As I walked around picking up what I needed, a nice lady started giving me advice about heirloom seeds. She was completely unphased by my N95 mask and gloves, but she was also one of the few in the store to respect the 6 foot rule!
More news tomorrow.
