When the WHO declared the global pandemic, I knew right away that things were going to get ugly. As of March 13th 2020, I have decided that my family needs to go into a bug in situation. This was always the plan, the proverbial trigger has been pulled! Here is a daily update on what we face.
Day 12 –
I gotta say, information overload is a real thing. By the end of day 12 I was absolutely exhausted. No, physical workloads haven’t really increased any, but the onslaught of information certainly takes a toll.
In addition to keeping up on what the federal and provincial powers that be are doing and what they may be hinting at doing, there’s the revision of plans, monitoring of police frequencies for signs of civil unrest or mass gatherings, and on and on.
On a positive note, a quick trip to the pharmacy showed me that SOME people are starting to take this seriously. I was greeted by a locked inside door with a clerk inside asking me to use the provided hand sanitizer. I was then instructed to back away from the door before it was opened. The open door WAS NOT an invitation to enter, but only a way for me to be asked a multitude of questions about my health, possible symptoms, and what my business was about. Once I informed them that I had no symptoms and was there to pick up a prescription that I had been informed was ready over the phone was I permitted to enter. A secondary counter had been set up near the front door with prescriptions that had been prepared for customers. After giving my name, my prescription was taken to the cash for me, and I was instructed to stand at an X made on the floor well away from the cashier, who was behind a brand new plexiglass enclosure. I was told to pay by card, using paypass if I had it. Once I paid and was on my way out, the cashier began to spray down the area with alcohol in preparation for the next customer. Talk about taking it seriously!
I will say one thing though, deciding to go out for anything, while it is still possible, is a decision that is not taken lightly. Everything we want from the outside world is carefully considered and online options are chosen when possible.
More news tomorrow.
