At Preppers Meet 2024, I was lucky enough to win a Peak Refuel Base Camp food bucket generously donated by Briden Solutions. Thinking this would be a great bug out bucket, kind of a grab and go thing, I wanted to give each and every meal pack in that bucket a taste test. Could I live on this stuff for any amount of time? Would I feed it to my kids? Let’s find out one meal at a time!
The first meal I’m going to try is the Breakfast Skillet. I’ve heard a lot, and I do mean a LOT of praise for this particular meal. Honestly though, who wouldn’t love a mix of scrambled eggs, sausage, potatoes and peppers?
First of all, this is a 110g bag, so it’s really intended for one serving. That being said, I had trouble finishing this and it would more likely be suited for 2 people, or one person that had worked up a really big appetite. Calory count on this meal is 540. The nutritional facts listed on the back bring notice of some interesting sodium and fats content, so be aware if you have dietary issues around those.
Taste wise, well it was OK. To tell you the truth, I was a little disappointed given all the hype I had heard. This meal was just plain missing something. Seasoning. It was down right bland. Now, that being said, blandness is an easy problem to fix. You might want to carry around a few of those little pepper packets…trust me, they’ll do good.
All in all, this product’s presence would NOT keep me from buying this bucket package. It was bland, but not offensive or bad tasting…it just needs a little help. It’s filling, that’s for sure, and it’s a familiar meal that will be comforting when the stuff hits the you know what. Final score – 7/10.
