Covid-19 : Our Bug In Day 14

When the WHO declared the global pandemic, I knew right away that things were going to get ugly. As of March 13th 2020, I have decided that my family needs to go into a bug in situation. This was always the plan, the proverbial trigger has been pulled! Here is a daily update on what we face.

Day 14 –

Two weeks in already? Just kidding folks, this has been a long couple of weeks! It’s not about the family all being cooped up together or not being able to socialize, but the stress of catching up on plans that wears you out. Thankfully we had thought of most everything, we just hadn’t gotten around to putting it all in place.

Round one of indoor seed starting is done. While that is indeed a relief, it also adds to the daily chores. Checking the humidity of the peat pellet starter pots, watching for lack of sprouting for reseeding, keeping it all healthy and growing, etc. Just one more thing on the list of daily to do’s.

Even though we are pretty much caught up to where we wanted to be at this point, there is still the future to think about. Will more businesses shut down? Will there be an increase in crime? Will there be a criminal element around that I need to be concerned with? Will there be a second wave? Even with everything we’ve done, there is much more that we need to consider and plan for.

In the shorter term, there is home security to consider. There is food security to consider. There is restocking supplies to consider. In the longer term there is financial security to consider. Will the banks close and when? Will the food distribution network fail and when? How bad is the economy going to get and what can we do to counter it?

What has gotten us through so far was having plans in place that are easy to execute. What will get us through what is yet to come is the plans we make now that will be easy to execute. So much to do, and so much to get ready for.
