Covid-19 : Our Bug In Day 33

When the WHO declared the global pandemic, I knew right away that things were going to get ugly. As of March 13th 2020, I have decided that my family needs to go into a bug in situation. This was always the plan, the proverbial trigger has been pulled! Here is a daily update on what we face.

Day 33 –

The colder temperatures and intermittent snow flurries really don’t help when most projects needing to get done are outdoors and deal with spring cleanup. This is slowing the melt down of the snow pack, but what can I do except wait it out.

One outing today to the pharmacy, and unfortunately there isn’t much good news from there. One prescription could not be filled because all inventory was being redirected to hospitals. All the others were filled for only two weeks. Shortages are starting to force rationing. This could be a local thing, or could be nation wide. Personally, from all the comments about this that I have read on various platforms seem to indicate that these shortages are mostly sporadic in both location and duration. I haven’t seen anything that is considered a nation wide shortage…yet.

On the bright side, road crews are out dealing with the erosion problems from the recent rains. Starting with the most important routes, things are getting done at the normal slow pace often employed by municipal crews.

I sometimes wonder if I should even continue to call this a bug in situation. We are still going out to secure more supplies, but only at predetermined places that we have deemed safe. We will not go to a Costco or Walmart, but rather stick to mostly local stores where we have observed proper procedures in relation to hygene and enforcement. We have increased security measures at home, and been concious about situational awareness when we go out. We evaluate everything daily and make adjustments to our plans and procedures when we need to.

Many preppers would say that isn’t a REAL bug in, but I would beg to differ. If the situation were different, we would still be making recon trips and securing supplies. Instead of facing WROL, we face EROL (enhanced rule of law). Has the world as we know it come to an end? In many ways yes. Two short months ago we would never have thought twice about trips to the store. Now, we consider every purchase we make and only go out for essentials. We view everyone we meet up with in society a potential threat, either from the virus itself or from the stress induced aggression we’ve been seeing in other areas. Life has changed.
