Covid-19 : Our Bug In Day 51

When the WHO declared the global pandemic, I knew right away that things were going to get ugly. As of March 13th 2020, I have decided that my family needs to go into a bug in situation. This was always the plan, the proverbial trigger has been pulled! Here is a daily update on what we face.

Day 51 –

I would love to say that I’ve been away from the blog for a few days and everything I wanted to get done this spring is scratched off the to do list, but I just can’t. The past days have been rotating between work days and recovery days. On the recovery days, I can’t even get relief from OTC meds. My back just isn’t used to the bending and twisting I’ve tried to put it through.

This leaves me with the task of reorganizing the to do list. Separating projects into the “must do”, “should do”, and “want to do” categories. I will have to pace myself and add extra time to a lot of the projects that do need to get done, like turning over the existing garden beds and digging up new beds, or building raised beds. Our planting date here is May 22-24, so I do have a couple of weeks to get it done, then and only then, can I go onto other projects like rebuilding a bigger wood shed or hanging a new ham radio antenna.

On the better side of things, we have met our goal of 1 year worth of meat. All we have to do now is buy sale items on a regular basis to keep the supply up. We are now taking inventory of starches and creating shopping lists of what we need to get those items topped up to the one year mark.

There are only a couple of very small patches of snow left in the yard, but with rain in the forecast, I suspect those will be gone by tomorrow. I have been able to clear out some younger trees in order to make room for the raspberries to expand on their own and yard cleanup has come along nicely. The more I think about it the more I am leaning towards more container growing and less raised bed building. That should also cut down on the to do list quite a bit.

More news tomorrow…
