Covid-19 – Time To Start Planning Ahead

Although it may be hard to believe, as bad as the current state of the world is right now, this too will come to pass. This is not a permanent situation. In fact, in prepper terms, it doesn’t really qualify for a long term disruption either. This isn’t something that will last 2 weeks, no matter what anyone tells you, we’re in this situation for a few months. So what do we all do when this is finally over?

Let’s face it folks, we’re all going to be dipping into our preps for the next few months. Food storage will diminish, savings will dwindle. Medications, PPE, and other preps will be used up. Depending on what rate you were able to stockpile before this, Covid-19 has the potential to set you back years in your preps.

Garden like it counts this spring and summer, because it will count for a lot. The more food you can grow yourself means that much more money for other preps that need to be replenished. Try to grow faster maturing varieties of what you like to eat. This will get those savings going sooner.

Organize or join a group buy. Buying in bulk can lead to savings overall. Many wholesalers won’t touch a personal order under a certain dollar amount, but will entertain larger orders that you can split between friends.

Reduce household expenses. Cutting back on entertainment budgets can make a difference. Staying away from eating out and opting for home cooked meals is not only economical, but more nutritious too. Also, take a look at utilities such as cable packages, phone contracts etc. You can cut features to save money and even price shop for new suppliers. Threatening to change providers unless you get a deal has also been shown to work.

These are just a few suggestions, and likely many of you recognize them. The reason for that is they are exactly the same that you heard when you first started prepping and asked for advice on how to afford stocking up on supplies. Building your supplies back up means going back to basics and it sucks, but be happy knowing that whatever you have to do will help you get through the next situation.
