Hi! My sister, hubby and I are going to take part in this in September (my mom almost died this winter of a disease that involved her kidneys and had renal failure) if anyone is interested thought I would post this...I am unsure if I need to be sponsored, but I will let you know if anyone would be interested in sponsoring us.

turns out each person has to have a sponsor amount of $2200 minimum that has to be given to them in August...if you are questioning what this has to do with prepping the answer is that it is also doing the training over the next 4 months and the walk itself to get us in better physical shape so as we will be able to deal with whatever happens in the future
What you are doing is admirable and the side benefits are excellent. I do however question any "fundraising effort" that demands a minimum for the privilege of participating. One of the original fundraising groups is the March of Dimes which was begun to raise money for polio research and support. It was a grassroots effort and ANY amount was accepted and appreciated. These events be it Kidneys, Heart, Cancer are fundraising machines. How much is spent on arranging the event, the tent city for 2 nights, meals, "support" and drinks and lunch along the way, entertainment at night. This is all a huge infrastructure that needs to be supported and administered. Also what percentage of the raised money goes to the actual "cause" and what portion sustains the event? I'm not just focusing on this event but all the charities that demand $1000's from each participant up front.

I will put up $100.
Thank you Ladyboomer I appreciate that!! This is quite the training schedule and to end up walking 33 KM day will really be wicked, I am 100 pounds overweight as the result of a few health issues and the "hand to mouth thing" at the same time after stopping a 35 year smoking habit...this is a physical challenge for me also.
