Makes you wonder about the maintenance reliability though.

Always a concern. Most incidents have their roots in penny-pinching on maintenance. Many non-nuclear plants have what is called Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), which means that it is generally cheaper to run a pump or motor to failure and replace it than to regularly maintain it.

I dislike all uranium and nuclear stuff, i spent a year of my life protesting uranium prospectors, at the head waters of the Ottawa valley, little did the population know there inter water table could have been full of uranium radiative daughters. and they had there hands full up in Haliburton area. There is always leeching, the isotope nuclear plant on the Ottawa river is always spilling into the Ottawa river and they wonder way there is so much cancer. MP Happer firers the nuclear watch dog. The nuclear industry is as powerful as the mining and oil industries. I think a hell of a lot of people found out the hard way how things are run around here. when you think you own your land, nope, they can come in and do what they like, have your mineral rights or not. they to can be over turn from the right mining company who wants in. ok, now I got my self all work up, time to go hug a tree. πŸ™‚
