sounds like a good idea to me. I think community (or lack there of) is the step alot of us are missing to take our prepping to the next level.

Hi Canuck Prepper: are you "Canuck" as in Canadian or Vancouver hockey?

Hi Gramma.. 🙂 I'm just canadian. I personally cannot get interested in hockey. I know this is a dangerous thing to say on a Canadian Preppers board where everyone is not only loyal to their hockey team but also has an arsenal of guns to protect them from the impending zombies... but I find hockey boring.

When I was in Afghanistan not one hockey player came to see me work. I sure as hell ain't gonna pay money to watch them work.

This is my second post and I'm kind of new at this posting thing...

I'm a real estate agent - my husband and I live north of Belleville, between Belleville and Bancroft (for those familiar with area). We have 32 acres and are prepping for the downturn, as I will call it.

I've been seeing a lot more "preppers" moving to the area since we moved up here in 2006. Our neighbours made fun of us at first - we kept our mouths shut because our nicknames became "End of the world Linda" etc. and it was easier just to shut up and do what we needed to do... Now I'm getting emails from people moving from the larger cities - either full time or buying a "bug out" spot. People who laughed at me in 2006 are coming to me to help them buy a "bug out" spot.

My two cents - find a spot close to a city - so when gas turns from $1.30 to $3.00 you won't spend all of your money filling your tank. Be close enough to the city to find some sort of work. But far enough north that if people start walking they will take days to get to you. By then, they will give up or settle somewhere else. Get your PAL and buy a gun. Not just for protection, but for hunting. Deer come into my backyard. I know if worse gets to worse, my family has food.

Unfortunately, in our experience, being spiritual and community driven will get you only so far. You need to have a lot of self discipline and be as resourceful as possible. Muscles help too. Cut your own fire wood and you'll see why real soon, trust me on that. I'm 5'2" and 125 lbs. I learned real quick that my 41 year old body and can do more than I thought.

Make sure you find a bug out place that is off the road and has running (not stagnant) water. Lots of bush and trees, you can cut for firewood down the road. Land is number one. Access to it is important, but as things get rougher, if you really want a bug out place - the less obvious the better.

Good luck with your search -

Linda Brumbill

I am not worried if people know who I am, where I live or what I think.

I understand how some may not want their "bug out" to become public knowledge. My bug out is my home, and for me, the bottom line is... if things get so sh** crazy that I have to hide my identity and hide out in my bunker, waiting for the bandits... I'm probably not going to get through life anyway...

I'm in the bush, on acreage and by the time you find my house, you'll be too tired or too hungry to fight me for it.

I want to be prepared, not paranoid. I just couldn't live that way.

Beth I couldn't agree with you more about the security and compatability factor. I just feel that it makes sense to choose your allies prior to, as opposed to having that choice made for you when in dire straights.
I read one of your posts and you mentioned that land is fairly affordable in your area. I am more than willing to relocate. My understanding is that it is difficult if not impossible to get a mortgage if there isn't a building on a property. Perhaps you have more info about that...

l

I am good at dire straights, bring it on. As far as choice made for me, they better have a gun to my head, because if the shift happens I'd be the boss, ok me and hubby.
not sure about montage on vacant land, you might want to Kijiji lanark highlands or North Frontenac ont, there is some property that have small cabins on them. You find something and all tell you if the area sucks or not, there are many small river streams that head into the Ottawa river, . Any thing north you could have a mega uranium pit or some such thing in your back yard.

I live close to the Lanark Highlands/North Frontenac, some truly beautiful country-it would be a great place to be set up IMHO.

Some people highly recommend Dignam's Land company, others say stay away from them. Does anyone else have an opinion about them?
Perhaps LindaB has info about options- mortgages, land, buildings, building permits, trailers, residential, agricultural, what you can, and can not do on YOUR land, it goes on, and on, and on. Rules, ridiculous rules, for law abiding citizens...
Rules, laws, they're made to be broken especially some of these http://www.angelfire.com/falcon/flamingchickens/pointlesslaws.html

When I was younger I was very high-spirited, and rather rebellious. People always said grow up, pick your battles, do as they say, you'll never change the system, and in the past few years I have accepted that way of thinking...but something is changing.
The "government" aka "we the people", "town hall" , "city councill", says that an idividual cannot live in a trailer on a piece of land in Ontario.
My question is, "why not?" What can be wrong with a person living on a 5 acre parcel, in a trailer, with a garden, a proper well, composting toilet, solar/wind/generator and a couple of animals, out of the way, while not bothering anybody?

They are not part of the consumer driven system put in place to make the rich richer and keep us working longer..... in other words, who do you thing you are enjoying your life, get back to work and want to buy usless things made as cheap as posible in another country buy a guy who cant afford to feed his family with your creditcard! B!ATCH..... I think thats what they are saying in a nicer less direct way.

If you want to buy land buy in an un organized township and you can build or park what ever you want on your land with no problems!!! no permits and NO limits!! Go get your prospecting licence and get your land for free!!!! ha ha my secret is out!!!

Im the smartest redneck you will ever know!

You and I know the truth. My favorite day of the year is November 30 which is National NON-Consumerism Day. It should be a stat holiday, IMHO.

Do you know if there is a site specifically posting un-organized townships? I've looked but without much luck. I've read that the government is cracking down on that too. The old adage, "the only two things you can be certain of is death and taxes."
