wow excellent job
Hey razerp. How did the dehydrating go? How are you storing it for long term?
JAB
i learned that the grid in my dehydrator has holes too big for the tiny chopped frozen veges i tried out 😛
i just did a small batch.. they turned out ok.. gunna try some apple next.. long term storage options are limited.. think i'm gunna have to buy a vacuum sealer.my kitchen is tiny tiny.. as is my oven so canning not really an option.
Past week or so i have purchased 3 nail clippers - various sizes, some small pouches, a Leatherman wingman, a car rescue tool (seatbelt cutter / glass breaker keyring size), 3X small whistles, a small amount of tinned food (as i've been eating my stockpile.. eat what you store, store what you eat)

Freshco, has 3.5 lb (1.6 l) plastic jars of clarified butter. At $17.00 it is not cheap but, it is the only prepackaged butter that I can find. Lots in the US but, that is not available for export to Canada. I have processed my own butter. (boil and jar), it is ok but time consuming. The stated shelf life is 2015, however I think the expiry dates of most items is much longer than stated.
Cheers,
Hello, what is clarified butter? Or what is its benefits? Looked it up found out how it is made and used. But does it store better? Long self life, etc? Does it taste like regular butter?
Thanks

Properly made clarified butter does not spoil if one is careful not to contaminate it. It should not be kept in a fridge as taking it in and out will cause water to condense in it and cause spoilage. A cool dark place is best for keeping the ghee currently in use, but cool isn't a total must. Use a clean spoon to scoop out what is needed each time. It will keep up to 2 years if uncontaminated.
Canned ghee will keep 10 years or more unopened. Yes, you can use it in place of butter and it will taste like butter. The main advantage is it's storage ability and use in frying. Because the milk solids have been removed, it won't burn easily.
Husband scored us a free pump for our 5 and 3 gallon water bottles. You just screw it to the neck of the bottle and it's a push down pump.

They also have a really crappy version at Dollarama. You can find the better quality ones at the places that sell or refill the 5 gallon bottles.

Husband got it from the guy who brings in the water cooler water...it's a Tahiti pump...I don't know where you'd buy it normally...husband says Canadian Tire is supposed to have them and many grocery stores that carry the 3-5 gallon bottles have them

Dollar Store, has 28 hour candles for $1 ea. picked up 6, also a reflective tube (emergency) 8' long tent for $2. Stretch straps 2pr, also a 2' bungee cord with caribina clips on ends. Dollar store, a great place to pick up odds and ends. Also, Forrest City surplus now carries K-bar knives, 8" for $80. It has a good grip on it that even my paws can wrap around. 😈
