Covid-19 : Our Bug In Day 22

Search Amazon for Preparedness Supplies:

When the WHO declared the global pandemic, I knew right away that things were going to get ugly. As of March 13th 2020, I have decided that my family needs to go into a bug in situation. This was always the plan, the proverbial trigger has been pulled! Here is a daily update on what we face.

Day 22 –

Time to start thinking ahead…way ahead. Supply runs are now also for things we will be needing in the future. Mostly food production and storage related items like seeds, gardening items, and canning lids. The seeds we started are starting to sprout, slowly, but surely. Every day, there is just a bit more ground visible…spring is on the way!

Today’s outing took me to a local Dollarama. I was pretty impressed with the way this particular store was handling things. The number of people inside was limited. I don’t think there were more than 10 people inside at a time and the lineups outside were respectful as far as spacing and patience is concerned. There was one full time employee at the door letting in one person for every one that left. Only one cash was open, but with so few people at a time, that’s all that was needed. Of course I was grilled upon entering about travel, contact with travelers, and symptoms, while being reminded to keep my distance from other customers and staff. Everyone in the store was on board with that.

The second stop, a local hardware store for some potting soil and a few seeds I was still missing was just as good. Limited number of customers, and you were asked at the door what department you needed. Only one person per department at a time, so you had to wait for the clerk to come and help you…excellent service. Staff was wiping everything in sight.

I was told by the seasonal clerk that they were still waiting for seed potatoes and weren’t sure they would ever get them. I may be growing from supermarket potatoes this year. Spring garlic also seems to be off the gardening menu this year.

More news tomorrow…
