Covid-19 : Our Bug In Day 36

When the WHO declared the global pandemic, I knew right away that things were going to get ugly. As of March 13th 2020, I have decided that my family needs to go into a bug in situation. This was always the plan, the proverbial trigger has been pulled! Here is a daily update on what we face.

Day 36 –

Well finally a nice sunny day to get outside! Got the summer vehicle out and running. This is going to give a huge savings in gas costs. A 2.0 l engine as opposed to the 4.7 l in the truck is a huge difference.

Also got the kids outside for a “gym class” today carrying firewood to a new location. Some of the pile is still frozen under a tarp and a foot or so of snow, but any progress is welcome.

Every day, we see more and more bare ground in the yard. While this is great news, we still aren’t really ready to go out and do a good yard cleanup. We expect access to the back of the property for yard cleanup dumping within a week, so plans are being reviewed and to do lists updated.

We have some chicken and pork in the fridge to cut up and repackage. It will be interesting to see how many meals we can make out of 4 family packs of proteins. So long as we put up more than 7 meals worth every week, we are moving in the right direction. We will continue for as long as we can. With processing plants closing down due to covid-19, this is top priority.

More news tomorrow…
