Covid-19 : Our Bug In Day 45

When the WHO declared the global pandemic, I knew right away that things were going to get ugly. As of March 13th 2020, I have decided that my family needs to go into a bug in situation. This was always the plan, the proverbial trigger has been pulled! Here is a daily update on what we face.

Day 45 –

After weeks of waiting and watching, we finally get to start some outdoor projects. First order of business is to begin the annual cleanup of the yard. Whatever sections of the yard are snow free are being raked up and debris is being burned. Progress is slower than usual due to my tweeked back.

This evening we started processing our pork into a coarse grind and seasoning it up for sausage. All the grinding is done by hand. We have 3 batches to stuff, garlic/paprika, bacon/cheddar cheese, and sundried tomato/basil. It will be interesting to weigh it all when we’re done. These will be packed six per bag and frozen. I haven’t decided yet if I am going to smoke some or not.

It will be interesting to see how thawed the ground is where we want to expand the garden area. The sooner I can get some new ground broken, the better. I also have an idea for a squirrel trap that I might work on tomorrow. We’ll see how much time I have for it.

More news tomorrow…
