48 of the 220 weather radio repeaters in Canada are set to be decommissioned.

Weather radio has long been a standard in the prepping community. With specific area message encoding (SAME), preppers can receive nearly instant warnings of impeding weather and other dangers.
The idea behind this move is that other technologies exist to distribute this information, notably cell phones and internet. While these are viable options during normal times, we all know that these services may and often do become unavailable or unreliable when disasters strike.
Personally, I couldn’t even speculate as to the number of times I have received warnings from my weather radio while no emails or cell phone warnings were received.
If you think that weather radio is a useful resource for Canadians, please sign the petition.
