Damn good idea. At least while the hotels and Internet are still functioning. Goodnight all.

Right on!!!!
Ok here is the second one: anyone traveling in highway 17 between Sault ste marie and Wawa and need some shelter. There is a fenced off road on the north side of the agawa bridge. Walk down the road for 5 minutes and you will find an old house that was abandoned when they made the park. There is a fireplace there and it might serve as shelter.

What we have is a basic form/template that everyone fills out. They add as much or as little information as they want about there location, there capabilities to assist, etc. It also ensures you dont become a "crutch" for those less scrupulous people who may be looking for a couch to crash on or someone knocking on your door looking for a handout instead of using it as a legitimate resource during an emergency.
And the key was that everyone's personal comfort level is different..and you didn't have to offer up more than you were willing.I like this aspect as many might feel threatened that they have to offer that which they are not comfortable with. Can you imagine during a crisis that you offer to help another and then have to trust that that stranger doesn't harm your family for your good turn? I understand why folks state "you can sleep in my barn" in the movies. It's an offer but there are set limits no matter.
Also you may have offered something in times of plenty and now the offer can't be met. Honesty is always the best road and obligations change as priorities appoint the gift one should offer. The guest should accept that which is only offered freely and ask no more. I love the "Pay it Forward" concept, I just wish all folks would play the game fairly... As others too have stated, many are takers only and it is these folks who ruin this concept from being a success.
I think you should post the form, even just so others could then wrap their minds around this proposal all the better. It might be the stick that lights this fire!
I cant post a .pdf file. Im not technologically savvy enough to do that but happy to hand it over no problem as it might be useful or give some ideas. But if this gets to be something implemented by anyone here I would like in. Im not into HAM Radio (yet) but definitely see how that would be a key factor in communications or at least one very important aspect.

Most programs that write in pdf format cost money and many of those free ones that claim they do are a scam trying to install some bug on your system. Often you can just copy the form or text (Ctrl+C) and paste it into the forum editor (Ctrl +V), and then play with it a bit to make it discernible to the rest of us 😉

Also, re: ham radio, I am taking a course in the Ottawa area and should be licensed by Dec or Jan..I think I am the only person in the class who is looking to use for emergency purposes, other than some red cross volunteers, so that is one of the things i will be checking into, that is, which repeaters have what backup equipment. I swear the average age of hams is like 75, and many have lived through wars and multiple natural disasters, so it would not surprise me if some of the repeaters are set up with at least some emerg backup power. Many are also former law enforcement or military and still have access to maintain the repeaters, when needed, on top of buildings, etc (don't ask me how exactly, I might not want to know)
Anyways, I will share this info once I have it.

So I like this site for it's good intentions but I think that some secluded sites should not be offered up. Such things as wells could then easily be contaminated by large parties with ill intent. I know of such places and would share with this forum, but not on such a grand scale as that site due to implications of potential threats that I'd then be responsible for. I see such intel may help fellow members as they travel but a specifically designed sight with open access to the masses makes each location a future target for sabotage. It's still a thread worth following though.
Knuckle I don't know if you are possibly misreading my post, but nowhere did I suggest that anyone reading this thread post their knowledge on the spring site. Rather, I thought those reading this thread might be interested to look up the natural springs close to them/along their bug out route. That is what I have done, anyways. If people do want to add or comment on that site, it's their business, but I won't be.
The info (if it exists) that I plan to share is regarding the ham repeaters and my plan was to share it HERE in this forum or through forum pm or some other more restricted mechanism. If you read my post, that comment is unrelated to the spring website.
