When the WHO declared the global pandemic, I knew right away that things were going to get ugly. As of March 13th 2020, I have decided that my family needs to go into a bug in situation. This was always the plan, the proverbial trigger has been pulled! Here is a daily update on what we face.
Day 9 –
Trying to sort fact from fiction is getting more and more difficult. Between “official” news sources and the endless ramblings of facebook keyboard reporters, who knows what to believe anymore.
One thing that has been picked out of all the noise is the possibility of a second wave of this virus. One thing is for sure, I’m going to garden like never before this year. With the desire to stay away from garden centers this spring (if they even open at all) we’re looking at starting our own seeds this year for those long season crops like tomatoes, peppers and others. This requires an indoor greenhouse to keep the cats away from the seedlings, and probably a lot more seeds.
We have ordered one of those inexpensive greenhouse things online. Lots of stores are offering free delivery now, so why go out and risk it? Not to mention if items are ordered out of province, I only pay GST and no provincial sales tax!
A few years ago I was sent a seed vault to review. The company closed down before I could get to it (not encouraging). So seems as good a time as any to break it open and plant my brains out! Surprisingly, there was a lot of seeds in there. I would have preferred more of some and less of others, but hey, seeds are seeds right now. Also, they are all heirloom seeds, so I can finally get going on seed saving this fall. We will also be ordering some seeds online to boost supply, especially for plants I would have bought at the nursery in flats.
Planning for the near future is now the name of the game.
More news tomorrow.
