Sure, now it can be found. At the time (feb 1st) a google search for that name or its varients would not bring up a site. I noticed the site pop up around feb 12, then a search would find it, I suspect he didn't have the site ready at the time or the widget thing that lets google index the site was not enabled. I poked him after his site came up, on the 23rd with my teapot remark, but he didn't bite, but with profit being a persistent motivator I figured he would pop back up, I am a patient fellow..
I had already confirmed to my satisfaction at the time that things were as I stated, because in my response I baited him by saying Thursday, His meeting days were wednesday....look back. hours after I said Thursday, up pops Scotty (suspected sock puppet) in that other thread, where he then restates the correct day and location, case closed (for me) at that point, bookem Dano. I suspect a different thread so the wrong day drops down in the threads, and the correct day is more recently listed.

You can check with Duff as I informed him by pm previously that I baited loft with the day change to provoke a response, that came as scotty, and Denob by pm the date the web site poped up 😀
my sniffer is working good 😀 ofcourse I didn't guess that he charges for his meetings, pretty ballsy if you ask me. I do wish him luck, have nothing against sales just spit it out so its on the table.

This will be my reply that "Yes I want to stay on this board, and No I am not a spam bot (whatever that is)."

IMO, the words "essential oils" should not be in the same sentence with "survivalist." As much as we should strive for balance, I think I respect the tacticool guys more than the "let's waste money on junky / smelly / girl stuff" and call it "living off the land." Granted, I'd like to be able to make soap with lye, but this would be "functional" soap that I would only use after the good stuff runs out. There is a difference between "making do because you have to" and "choosing hardship for its own sake."

The only "essential oil" I stock is Ballistol!

With respect to the OP ... I will second Canada Boy's plea for "others of like mind."

There is a place we have access to ... it's not perfect, but it's big, private, and legit. We're using it to hone our skills (such as they are), pool our resources, and trying to do the dual, 1. "Have fun doing wholesome outdoor cool stuff in the here and now and hope that bad stuff doesn't happen" and
2. "Be at least somewhat ready to get our crap together and have half a shot of surviving if SHTF."

The problem is finding people who are:

a) reasonably intelligent, with prep skillz to contribute
b) trustworthy, and with a similar moral compass
c) not batshit crazy (somewhat related to c)

Of course, I could expound on the above criteria in greater detail, but I'd rather do that in person and under more comfortable (and less public) circumstances.

Suffice to say, though our group is small, we have excellent HR, decent infrastructure, and potential for growth and improvement.

I'm guessing we need about 4 to 6 more solid individuals. Preferably with "favourable able-bodied to invalid ratio" ... not trying to step on any toes (or lack of toes), but we're talking about a private association, not a business in compliance with governmental hiring principles.

For example, if you are the real McCoy "Ninja Sniper Mechanic Farmer Doctor" ... BUT ... you are bringing along 3 children under the age of 5, and your great-grandparents out of the nursing home, that's like 37 more mouths to feed. You'd have to be a damn good Ninja Sniper to offset that.

I hope the above wasn't too incoherent.

Anyway, we're operating out of North Edmonton and also west of Edmonton. Drop either of us a line if you are interested.

Have a great day... 😉

Hmm. Well then I'm going to go check out this meeting and see if it's for real. This week. Better not disappoint me!

Edit! I really should've read to the end of the pages first. Essential oils and a store is Not what I'm looking for at all. Neither do I have bandwidth to pay $10 each visit. Budgets are tight in this economy and funds far better spent on building gear for our mobile farming setup. We're about a decade and a half beyond the beginner stage of needing to buy premade kits of anything.

What others have proposed is better, and I'll pm you to make contact, because careful getting to know people and op sec are important pieces when looking for like minded people. I've got 3 people in my house: 2 technogeeks, and our 17.5 year old son.

Been into prepping a long time, have a ton of skills, and just spent the winter off grid in an uninsulated 40 year old rv by choice. 🙂 Nothing fluffy about that! We choose to live much closer to the sometimes harsh elements of Nature, because we learn faster what we need and don't need that way. Buh-bye dependence on utility companies and your insane bills!

I tell ya, despite the smokin deal we got on the rv last year 300$ off kijiji, it's a real Walking-Dead type special. The 40 year old green shag carpet is getting torn out! Aside from that, it's going to get some renovations this year now that we've been in it 10 months and can really see where it needs improvements.

Now that spring is here, we'll have more time to meetup with people!

You're still going to attend? I thought the gurus on this board has all but discredit it? I guess if you're in the area already or something, it might be okay. Not sure I'd rearrange my week or drive out to it though...

Nah, not going to that meeting! We do have our evenings free in the city before we commute home, so can meetup for coffee whenever is convenient for people. Or if people are West of the city, so are we so we could meet out that way too.

Perfect. We had some success in the past with meeting at a coffee shop / Tim Horton's (although more upscale venues like Starbucks would also work, depending upon people's budgets and caffeination philosophies).

It was awkward when people seemed to just want to meet in the parking lot outside. Especially as it grew a bit darker. And considering some people were wearing camo for some reason (well, maybe they dress like that all the time, which is cool for them, I guess).

Anyway, I know Canada Boy and myself at least would reliably show up somewhere to meet and chat with like-minded individuals. If you pick out a coffee shop or McDonald's or something that is convenient for you, you could then PM me or Canada Boy and we could pick a mutually convenient evening and time.

Hope to hear from you (all) soon.

Have a great weekend!

I'm interested in another meetup. Not keen on a lot of outdoor stuff at my age-and plan to bug-in. But I am interested in learning more about warning systems and security that doesn't require electricity.

I'm not interested in expensive essential oils. Although I did buy a ball of soap and shampoo. Each said to be good for many months. Tea tree oil is good to mix (a couple of drops) with your shampoo so that hair lice don't want to move in.

Bumping this thread as I'm going to be in Nisku most of next week.

Can meet for coffee if anyone is interested...

I usually only check into the forums once a week or twice a month but I'll check between now and the weekend. I'll be driving up on Sunday afternoon.

Cheers!

Hello Everyone,
I am new to this site. I have been reading through all of the great info here. Such a great resource. I was wondering if there is a prepper group in the Red Deer area. I am hoping to meet up with some like-minded people to discuss and share thoughts/ideas. Does the Edmonton group meet regularly? I would be willing to drive that way if that was my only option. As well, I am interested in finding out if there are any people in the central Alberta area who have taken any survival courses and what their experiences were like. Any feed back would be great.
Thank you
