Hi
I am just so excited to find a place to chat to like minded people. Its hard when you wonder yourself sometimes if you just might be going crazy....then you turn on the news.
Would love to fine some friends to share with
Have a blessed day
Hey Scout, I'm mot very local to you (Quebec) but welcome to the forum. Take some time to look around at the different posts and feel free to join in the conversations. Hope to hear from you often.
It's great to see others involved. I just found this site today and I hope to visit frequently. We are west of Edmonton about an hour and a half. Nice area, but the best part is getting the solarpanels hooked up. I just need to talk with more folks and share ideas. I look forward to being here.

I belong to a few boards but since I live in Alberta I should at least be known here. Have been prepping for several years. Basically married with 2 teenage kids. Feel the same as most here, prepping is NOT somthing that is all consuming but just logical. Would be interested in meeting like minded folks. We have a "cottage" on 6 1/2 acres with all services. It is our retirement project but livable right now if needed (not our permanent residence). Would like to form a group of diverse folks to help each other if things got bad. I make biodiesel and run a Golf and Jetta. Carpentry background and not too bad at plumbing.Interesting in going off grid with wind and solar, this should start next summer.
Just starting to address our families needs myself, new to the forum, new to the conversation. We are poised to do well, purchasing and old farm with all the necessary infrastructure, from water wells to chicken coops and wood heated living quarters. Diesel furnace was a good find and we are optimistic on a bio diesel conversion for it. looking to share ideas, resources, book suggestions etc.
We are an existing homestead, multi-generational from 1887 to present time. We are the only producer as far as I know in the world of Wild Black Currant. We have modified several vehicles to operate on propane, some of them are four times more economical operating on propane than on gasoline. We heat 2,800 square ft home in the winter for approximately 100$ a month on coal. The workshop which has a 2,000 square ft heated working area is heated as well on coal again approximately 100$ a month. We are on a stand of old growth timber on the original homestead with the only logging done the dead and dying have been removed. At the present time we are looking to bring like minded people together even perhaps hosting seminars on weekends to bring like minded people together. Keep in mind we are not looking for financial contributions or for any one to incur costs for these get-togethers. If you are interested please feel free to contact us or check out our website.

CBC Radio News sent me an email looking for preppers in either Montana or Alberta. If you would be interested in talking with them about prepping, let me know.
Actually had the CBC contact us a few weeks back for an interview. Went well, hopefully it opens a few more eyes. Have a listen...

Hi Evan, we are preppers from south of Castor. We also have friends at Hanna that are also preppers. Take care.

Gravlore I understand how you feel as my family and I are really new to the whole prepping concept ourselves. I have had a few friends even make comments on our choice to buy a berkly water filter, and how we are silly to think we would ever not have water. Sometimes I myself sit here and wonder if I am a bit of a loon, however if/when something does happen i would rather be able to take care of my family rather than be desperate or worse.
Hello All,
I am in the Calgary area and wouldn't mind discussing the particulars of bringing together like minded people to actually set in motion a communal post SHTF plan to exploit both the tangible and intangible aspects of community living.
I have been prepping for about a year and although my wife humors me I am the driving force in my family. I have really have no idea what is coming but I am confident something significant and profound is in our near future. This realization is the impetus behind my desire to be more prepared and in the process I have come to realize prepping may only be half the battle.
Now that I am well on my way to being reasonably prepared for at least a year I have started to look farther down the road. Depending on any one of the number of potential events lurking around the corner this proposition is looking more daunting than I think many of us can comprehend.
To feed a family of 5 you would need to maintain at least 1 acre of crop land. Our forefathers had generations to develop the skills and mindset to live off the land. In a worse case scenio we are going to be thrust into that situation overnight and althought many of us are thinking we will be a step ahead with biodiesel generators, solar etc and simply being prepared I suspect in the long term 3-8 years down the road from a serious event we will be struggling and wishing we had developed half the basic survival skills that founded this country.
I like what the guys at the Wild Horse Ranch are doing and would be keen to explore something similar in the Calgary area even on a part time basis. If it is out there already I am interested in contributing.
Cheers
Hello everyone,
Just stumbled on this site tonight.I am in Alberta, south east of the capital by about a hour. Been at it seriously for roughly 8 years. Anyone else in my area?

Wind and solar are great granted there is not an EMP in our future. My concern is our resources. If people believe that others will go nuts if SHTF what makes us think that other governments won't. Everything is rosey here in SK and I assume the same goes for AB.
I feel like a needle in a haystack as far as my thinking. I only started prepping about 3 weeks ago and am building my own house in the meantime. Canada seems a little behind as far as communities if SHTF. I would love to meet with others but either I would be called a loon or if poo did hit the fan I would be a target. Thoughts?
Gravlore, I have wondered about the EMP myself. I am left asking what is the likeliest scenario to prep for? I share very little of my prepping with colleagues or even family, because they live such a different lifestyle than I. Right now, we are taking inventory of what basic survival activites will take up the most energy, and stockpile accordingly. Example: heat. Which we would use wood as a energy source. But hand cutting wood in the winter will exhaust caloric energy that may be something we are conscience of especially if meat is scarce. So we are cutting and stockpiling what we can while we have access to chainsaws and gasoline in ready supply.
I am wondering what specific strategies are folks employing to ensure they have what they need? Is there some beneficial resources online that may aid people in addressing strategies for stockpiles, seed stock, abodes etc.

Of course you're a loon. Me too. Not even my wife is privy to most of my preparations, she prefers to live in the "real" world. I think that someday she'll be in for a rather steep leaning curve from this loon.
As for being a target, only if you talk too much to those you don't know and trust 100%. Check out my post in long term food storage and you'll see what talking targets are.
Use the internet for research (I love google) and put together a binder with the info you need. Keep prepping.
