is it just me, or this not the place for this kind of talk? Save it for a conspiracy theory forum. I'm hear to chat with and exchange ideas with preppers, not silliness like this.

The topic is not preparedness but rather could be a symptom on why. Not that I agree or disagree with some posts (including some of my own), but it keeps our heads in the game as to why things happen. Same goes for an "economic collapse" or a "mega quake". It is speculation (conspiracy) on things that can escalate into something larger. Theories are ok but rather than focusing on the theory, perhaps the talk should be what if anything can become of it that would require preparations. Suppose everyone believed Obama was not American, what would the outcome be? Then how to respond to the outcome? Some theories are thought of as nutty... like prepping for anything larger than weather.

I hope that everyone remembers that there was a LOT of discussion about December 21st 2012. For many that was a ridiculous topic and well into the conspiracy theory realm. For others it was serious business. However for all that took the opportunity to take part in the discussion it was worthwhile. I like to keep an open mind and realize that some conspiracy theories actually turn out to be true. Sometimes if I find myself diametrically opposed to the content of a post I will move on to another thread. Other times I jump in and if I think it is BS I will say so and sate why I have that opinion. I would not want to stifle discussion unless members start to be disrespectful of other members.

Yeah, Youtube is a beloved source of info for some...

Nothing personal against the OP, but conspiracy claims, unless founded, are ridiculous, unless they come from a reliable source, and especially suspect when they state the link from Youtube as "PROOF"...and since any "hillbilly" in the world can make a YouTube vid, credibility is always questionable.

**My comments were not meant to degrade Hillbillies in any way...I am sure their mothers (which may be their sisters or cousins) may very well take offence to slanderous type comments....of course, assuming reading is a skill they have mastered! For this, I apologize to them**

Again, kidding, if we cannot be toungue in cheek in some of these instances, we really have lost the battle...of wits that is.

Cheers

I hope my comments were not taken to be disresptful..they were meant to point out that siting a source such as YouTube as Proof is not only suspect, but dangerous as well.
I enjoy many Youtube vids for educational purposes, but draw the line as taking for gospel regarding a lot of conspiracy charges unless solid proof is attained, not just a twisted interpretation of information, much like mainstream media does.

GIve me undenaible facts and truth, and I understand...give me twisted beliefs or slants on how one can incorpporate facts to prove their own story, then I have issue...In this case, I guess I should be clear...I think the YouTube videos's to be BS...

Apologies if I have confused and or offended.

No offence in your post at all. I was alluding to some discussions (generally about region) where members get quite out of hand calling each other the most interesting names and suggesting that the opposing party do things to themselves that are physically impossible. Personally I think the world has become far too "politically correct". I commented in this thread but you may note that I did not comment about the premise of the thread. I think I will leave that one well alone.

There is some useful and informative content on YouTube. There is also some real BS on YouTube. As was said anyone (almost anyone) can produce a video. The problem is also the fact that some people watching seem to have the capacity to believe the most outrageous, nonsensical, absurd and offensive material imaginable. I not sure that I used to believe in alternate universes until I watched YouTube. YouTube IS an alternate universe. 😆

The only solid proof on most news is how much snow fell. Other than that there are plenty of opinions and 'not being released at this time' talk. News on TV guides far more people to an agenda than youtube does. The TV news propaganda machine will die along with the boomer's and older that watch it. This is why youtube numbers grow every year, while MSM slowly dies. Youtube puts independents on the streets when there is a riot or demonstration and ask people questions as they go, while major news channels sit outside the demonstration and say things that are written on paper that someone said, or they pick someone just outside the demonstration area what they think (like a gawker has and insightful input). Then its off to asking the police something that is obviously rehearsed, while the independent is on the front line with the police in full riot gear.

I think it is obvious I have nothing but contempt for TV and its shills.

If, in fact Obama was not American born, what would that mean in relation to preppers?
Well, if proven, this would in fact show that the political system is corrupt(surprised anyone?)
However, it only shows that it is corrupt to the point that documents will be forged in order to elect the person they most want to get elected!
Many people will elude to this corruption being a reason to prepare because a corrupt government is only out to enslave it's people.
My opinion on this...pure hogwash.
Is politics corrupt? Yup, you bet, no denial here.
But does this amount to an agenda to enslave the people? Hardly!
HOWEVER.....
issues like this need to be discussed for one reason only...to keep us awake!
Situational awareness is the cornerstone of being prepared and that means what is going on with weather, space, man made dangers, and yes, politics.
We should all be aware of impending weather that could knock out power for days or weeks.
We should all be aware of solar flares and near earth objects.
We should all be aware of plans to build a nuclear power plant in the next town, or a chemical plant a few blocks away.
We should all be aware of global political unrest as it often leads to war or other issues that can affect our daily lives.
The above is by no means a short list of everything we should keep an eye on, but just a few examples.
When issues like this arise, we need to ask ourselves what each possible outcome could mean to our lives, if any.
Perhaps Obama was not America born, and further down the line, we could find out that he has family in a less than friendly nation, and even further down the line something else could come to light...and so on and so forth.
Does one single issue like this need to be so heavily discussed....not for it's own sake, but it could be a symptom of something bigger that could be hiding.
If however, it is proven true, and the only intention was to get a sure win name on the ballot to gain political power, then it means nothing more that what we already know.
The problem is proof....
There is no one checking to make sure that what is put up on the internet is true, which is why I am able to convince you all that I am a 20 year old supermodel in prime physical condition and have a degree in nuclear science!
No source on the internet should be taken as the truth without being questioned...but keeping that in mind, sometimes someone actually puts something out there that is right on the money!

Denob you are correct. No source on TV should be taken as truth without being questioned as well. You probably know that though.

Most of what I see on the internet is claims that this person or that person is doing this or that and some unknown source confirms it.
Most of what I see on television news is this person or that person is accused of this or that...
BIG DIFFERENCE!
When was the last time you saw the local news claim that Obama was not born in America...
Usually, we hear something to the effect of there is speculation, someone claims, or something like that.
But then again, the news scripts we hear on television are written by the CIA and only what the corrupt government wants us to hear is reported...so said someone on the internet.
I watch my local 6 o'clock news as regularly as I can, and don't see any ramblings about government conspiracies aimed at oppressing the people into slavery or other such nonsense.
If they report that a fire gutted a business, or that a politician was caught cheating on his wife, or something of that nature, why would this be in doubt?
There are too many so called internet news sites that claim every news program on television is just a corrupt extension of the government.
There are some news stories that you will see on the internet that don't make it to your average news program, but that is mostly ratings driven...not conspiracy or propoganda!
When Sandy hit the east coast, television stations all over the continent reported about it and for the most part, all these reports were about the same.
Is it a conspiracy because none of them made claims that the government caused the storm by using the HAARP weather manipulation array?

To get back to the gist of the thread, "President Obama not American born". It doesn't matter. And why is that, might you ask. Well, the answer is simple.
Despite all of the allegations and the evidence that is being put forward, nobody who can do anything about it, will do anything about it. So, Obama will continue to be the president until his term ends or he does something stupid enough to get impeached. Right now he has too much power (and is consolidating more) for anyone to try to oppose him. Right now, he could probably hold a news conference and announce to the world that he was, indeed born in Kenya, that he's a radical Muslim and that his goal is to become president for life. The msm would give it a postive spin and he'd be just fine.
So, it doesn't matter where he was born, he's the President of the United States and that's not likely to change anytime soon.
